Elementary Special Education Paraprofessional

This position is part of the MISTAFF collaborative effort involving multiple Michigan education associations.

About the role

We are seeking a dedicated educator to join our team in a K-12 alternative certification program. This role supports non-traditional certification pathways for aspiring teachers, helping them meet Michigan’s certification requirements while gaining hands-on classroom experience.

Responsibilities

• Mentor and coach candidates through the alternative certification process, including classroom observations and feedback.
• Collaborate with school districts to place candidates in appropriate teaching assignments.
• Assist candidates in developing lesson plans, classroom management strategies, and instructional techniques.
• Monitor candidate progress toward certification, ensuring compliance with state requirements.
• Facilitate professional development workshops and training sessions.
• Serve as a liaison between candidates, school administrators, and certification agencies.

Requirements

• Valid Michigan teaching certificate with appropriate endorsements.
• Minimum of 5 years of successful K-12 teaching experience.
• Experience in mentoring, coaching, or supervising educators (preferred).
• Strong knowledge of Michigan’s teacher certification standards and alternative certification pathways.
• Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to travel to school sites within the region as needed.
