Elementary School Teacher Assistant

Essential Duties

• Supervise classrooms in emergency situations.
• Makes sure students are safe and engaged during independent work activities.
• Provides tutorial assistance to students in one-to-one or small group settings.
• Helps reinforce material and lessons covered in the classroom.
• Assists in preparing instructional materials.
• Supports behavior management tasks under the direction of a certified staff member.
• Supports the implementation of the classroom behavior management system.
• Offers emotional support and encouragement to students.
• Assists with the supervision of students throughout the school day (e.g., supports within regular classroom, bus loading/unloading, lunch, recess, restroom, movement throughout the school building).
• Performs clerical duties as needed.

Starting Pay

Starting pay is $17.38/hr with 36 hours of college credit or substitute teacher training, and $18.38/hr with a 4-year degree.

Position Summary

To improve the educational program by assisting the instructional and administrative staff. The Teaching Assistant will assist full-time teachers, reinforcing materials and lessons covered in the classroom to facilitate student learning. Under the direction of a certified teacher, performs a variety of classroom, general, and clerical duties related to assisting a student.
