Elementary School: Teacher Art 2026-2027

About the Role

The Teacher Elementary Art will plan and implement an instructional program and provide related educational services for students in assigned grade levels. The role involves managing student behaviors, assessing and evaluating student achievement, and modifying instructional activities as required.

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, monitor, and maintain progress with group and individual instruction, practices, and exhibitions.
• Manage allotted learning time to maximize student achievement.
• Assess student abilities and achievement as related to desired educational goals, objectives, and outcomes.
• Maintain appropriate assessment and evaluation documentation for institutional and individual reporting purposes.
• Manage student behavior in all parts of the school, center, school grounds, or work site, both during and outside of school hours, in compliance with district policies and handbooks.
• Participate in professional learning activities, Professional Learning Community meetings, and staff meetings.
• Ensure continuous communication with parents, both written and oral, to keep them informed of student progress.
• Communicate regularly with students on instructional expectations and progress.
• Maintain a beneficial, healthful, safe, and conducive classroom or instructional environment with accessible and well-maintained materials.
• Uphold all rules, regulations, and dates pertaining to instructional programs, including VASE, TAEA, and FBISD policies.
• Guide and monitor art club and extracurricular activities, ensuring they reflect positively on the school district and campus.
• Monitor and enforce student eligibility criteria for extracurricular activities.
• Provide proper student supervision during and after all activities until all students have left the area.
• Participate in FBISD-sponsored events and encourage student participation in competitions and events related to the instructional program.
• Schedule and facilitate at least two public art exhibits or shows each semester featuring student artwork.
• Comply with all established policies and procedures, submitting required forms, fees, and electronic documents by deadlines.
• Monitor the placement of potential art students, assigning them to appropriate classes based on prerequisites, skills, or portfolio evaluations.
• Maintain a current inventory of all fine arts equipment and instructional materials, coordinating service and repair of school-owned equipment.
• Manage the collection, receipt, and deposit of student fees and fund-raising proceeds in compliance with district policies.
• Support and assist feeder programs by attending exhibits/shows and offering reasonable assistance.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in education, a Visual Art discipline (e.g., Drawing, Painting, 3D, Studio Art), Art Education, or a related field (preferred).
• Master's degree (preferred).
• Valid Teaching Certification issued by the Texas Education Agency appropriate to subject and grade level, or a statement of eligibility.
• Minimum of 3 years of teaching experience (preferred).
• Ability to demonstrate proper artistic techniques in a variety of mediums (e.g., drawing, painting, sculpting).
• Demonstrated knowledge of content, curriculum, methods, materials, and equipment of instructional specialty.
• Demonstrated knowledge of adolescent growth and development or adult learning theory.
• Proven ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional programs.
• Ability to plan and implement lessons based on division and school objectives and student needs.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers, and parents.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Working Conditions

• Work is performed in classrooms, offices, work stations, and meeting rooms.
• Occasional walking, standing, sitting, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and lifting/carrying items weighing less than 40 pounds.
• Regular use of hands to handle objects, tools, or controls; reaching with hands and arms; and talking or hearing.
• Specific vision abilities required include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
• Attendance at conferences and professional development is required.
• Work involves everyday risks and discomforts requiring normal safety precautions.
• May work prolonged or irregular hours and must maintain emotional control under stress.
• Potential travel to various campuses, district meeting sites, and conferences in and out of state.
• May require working some evenings and weekends.
• Exposure to noisy and/or disruptive student behavior, bodily fluids, and frequent childhood, pre-teen, or teen illnesses may occur.
