About the Role

The Elementary Art Instructor, under the general supervision of the School Principal, assists students in generating, conceptualizing, organizing, and developing artistic ideas and work. This role involves analyzing, interpreting, and selecting artistic work for presentation, refining artistic techniques, and conveying meaning through artistic expression. The instructor helps students receive, analyze, and interpret meaning in artistic work, apply criteria to evaluate artwork, and relate artistic ideas to societal, cultural, and historical contexts.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate a strong scholarly foundation in art education and link art to broad life experiences.
• Align art education curricula and practices with state and local district standards, goals, and policies.
• Teach art content, including aesthetics, art history, art criticism, and studio performance.
• Use elements and principles of design to create and discuss effective artworks.
• Plan and present studio experiences in drawing, painting, collage, printmaking, photography, digital imaging, clay, metals, fibers, and other three-dimensional media.
• Create an environment that values individuals, art content, and inquiry, enabling students to learn and create.
• Implement safety practices when using art tools and operating equipment.
• Select and adapt resources, materials, and technologies to design a curriculum that enables students to learn, make, and respond to art.
• Develop an art curriculum aligned with local, district, and state standards.
• Collaborate with colleagues, families, and community groups to enrich the art program and enhance student learning.
• Use assessments to monitor, analyze, and evaluate student and program improvement, encouraging student self-assessment.
• Engage in professional development and demonstrate responsibility to the field of art.
• Perform other related tasks as assigned by the Principal or central office administrators.

Requirements

• State Certification as an Art Teacher or as required for the position.
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in an education discipline applicable to teaching art.
• Master’s Degree preferred.
• Motor Vehicle Operator License or ability to provide own transportation.
• Knowledge of current art instructional teaching methods and educational pedagogy.
• Ability to differentiate instruction based on student learning styles.
• Knowledge of art curriculum and concepts, as well as applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
• Ability to use computer network systems and software applications.
• Strong organizational and coordination skills.
• Effective communication with students, parents, and colleagues.
• Ability to engage in self-evaluation regarding performance and professional growth.
• Professionalism, confidentiality, and adherence to proper standards of dress and appearance.
• Ability to work with a diverse population and handle situations with tact and diplomacy.
