Elementary School ISS Instructional Aide

Qualifications

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
• Demonstrated aptitude (i.e. bilingualism, computer literacy) for the work to be performed.
• Course work and/or knowledge of basic education theory and methodology as it relates to duties of the position.
• Familiarity with pertinent program requirements, compliance issues etc.
• Ability to work independently and cooperatively to organize and deliver supplemental programs of study in support of regular and/or special education programs.
• Ability to relate cordially with staff and students.

Responsibilities

• Cookordinate with teachers in developing supplemental instructional programs and devising special strategies for reinforcing material or skills, based on an understanding of individual students' needs, interests and abilities.
• Plan, organize and complete duties applicable to the position.
• Prepare materials for specialized instructional activities.
• Supervise activities of students; maintain discipline and other functions as appropriate.
• Work as a "team player" with all participants in the educational community.
• Supervise independent study, enrichment work and remedial work.
• Evaluate student progress; recommend areas of improvement.
• Orient teachers to problems or special information about individual students as appropriate.
• Maintain confidentiality.
• Maintain records; handle reports and clerical functions related to the position.
• Maintain an attractive and stimulating learning environment.
• Operate standard school equipment.
• Participate in staff meetings.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
