About the role

Cole Academy is Lansing's longest-standing charter school in the state of Michigan, founded in 1995 through Central Michigan University. The Academy started as an Early Childhood Center and has since grown into a K-5 Public School, focusing on balanced literacy objectives and sustained professional development.

Responsibilities

• Translates lesson plans into learning experiences to best utilize the available time for instruction
• Continuously evaluates students' academic, emotional and social growth using appropriate records, and prepares ongoing progress reports
• Absolutely follows the goals of students in an IEP or 504 plan
• Maintains ongoing, multiple methods of communication with parents
• Maintains professional competence through learning activities provided by the District and/or self-selected professional learning activities
• Performs other duties and responsibilities assigned by the building administrator following guidelines outlined in the Employee Handbook and by the Board of Education

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Art Education, Fine Arts, Education, or a related field
• Valid teaching certification/license in Michigan with an endorsement in the subject
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in planning and assessing educational activities
• Strong knowledge of art techniques, materials, and history
• A passion for arts education and a commitment to fostering creativity in young learners
