Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Work with teachers in team teaching, team planning, and daily routines.
- Provide group instruction to assigned children.
- Understand, support, and assist in implementing and communicating the curriculum with the children and their parents.
- Aid in preparing and setting up daily materials.
- Cooperate with parents and other classroom/school volunteers and staff.
- Participate on program planning committees and parent involvement activities.
- Attend orientation and professional development sessions and serve as group leader when needed.
- Implement individual and group activities to stimulate growth as outlined in the IEP.
- Instruct children in practice of daily living skills as appropriate.
- Remain with student for support during all times outside of the Special Education classroom as assigned.
- Provide short-term classroom coverage when teacher must leave the room but remains within the building.
- Must provide personal care for student (i.e. diaper changing, toileting, feeding,) as appropriate.
- Lift and transfer students as needed.
- Implement the use of technology to enhance student achievement.
- Use of ASL skills required for DHH assignments.
Supervisory Responsibilities
NoneMinimum Qualifications
- Sixty (60) college credit hours.
- Associate's degree or higher.
- Missouri ParaPro Assessment passing score (before September 23, 2013).
- Missouri Paraprofessional Assessment passing score (September 23, 2013 and after).
- Completed Missouri's 20-hour online substitute training program.
Preferred Qualifications
- Three (3) years successful experience working with children and their parents.
- Course work in childhood education.
- Missouri state substitute teacher certification.
Physical Demands
- Sit, stand, walk, speak, hear, use hands, fingers, reach with hands and fingers;
- Bend, stoop, lift objects/children of at least forty pounds;
- Use stairs;
- Move quickly from one space to another;
- Spend extended time outdoors in a variety of weather conditions;
- Visual ability requires mono and color vision.
Terms Of Employment
- Length of work year: 7 hours per day; 5 days/week; 212 days
