This position is for the 2026-2027 school year, running from approximately September 25, 2026, through February 6, 2027.
About the role
Instructs students in music and prepares lesson plans. May specialize in teaching one or more areas of music, such as music theory and performance.
Responsibilities
- Teaches District-approved curriculum daily.
- Develops lesson plans and instructional material; provides individualized and small-group instruction to adapt the curriculum to each pupil’s needs.
- Accompanies students to concerts, performances, or other music-related events.
- Creates a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students.
- Translates lesson plans into developmentally-appropriate learning experiences daily.
- Employs a variety of instructional techniques and media consistent with the capabilities of individuals or student groups.
- Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals; establishes clear objectives for lessons, units, and projects and communicates these to students.
- Takes all necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities daily.
- Assists students in establishing and maintaining standards of behavior to achieve an effective learning atmosphere.
- Evaluates students’ academic and social growth; keeps appropriate records and prepares progress reports.
- Identifies pupil needs, makes referrals, and assists in developing strategies for individual education plans as needed.
- Assists administration in implementing policies and rules governing student life and conduct; maintains order in the classroom fairly and justly.
- Communicates regularly with parents through newsletters, notes, phone calls, conferences, etc.
- Plans, coordinates, and supervises the work of teacher associates, parents, and volunteers in the classroom and on field trips.
- Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations.
- Participates on school committees as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field.
- Teaching certification required.
- Minimum of one year of successful educational and instructional experience in a public school setting.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers, and parents.
- Strong planning and organizational skills.
- Knowledge of curriculum, instruction, and assessment.
- Experience using varied computer applications and applied technology.
Physical requirements
- Continuously required to use hands and fingers to handle or feel, talk, and hear.
- Frequently sits, stoops, kneels, crouches, and reaches with hands and arms.
- Occasionally exerts up to 25 pounds of force to lift, carry, push, pull, or move objects, including the human body.
Pay
Daily rate based on BS Step 1 ($50,164 annual equivalent).
