Position Summary and Responsibilities

The Academic Interventionist/Specialist supports MICA’s Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) using the Response to Intervention Framework (RTI). Key responsibilities include:

  • Utilizing performance, survey, and observation data to help teachers identify and group children needing additional support.
  • Aiding teachers in developing and implementing classroom-based interventions for individual and group children.
  • Supporting teachers in documenting children's progress.
  • Facilitating the Student Support Team (SST) process with principals, support staff, parents, and instructional staff.
  • Developing and using instructional and behavioral support tools effectively.
  • Gathering and organizing grade-level/subject area universal assessment tools and creating assessments for progress monitoring.
  • Implementing and tracking Tier 3 support for all identified students, refining strategies and support as needed.
  • Facilitating data-driven conferences with teachers during Professional Learning Community meetings.
  • Assisting in preparing and submitting school improvement plans for struggling learners.
  • Assisting with managing IDEA and Section 504 activities under Child Find requirements.
  • Producing required Federal, State, and District reports related to general education interventions and Child Find responsibilities.
  • Maintaining accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations.
  • Administering and analyzing standardized testing data to adjust instructional strategies.
  • Building effective relationships with parents and students through regular communication and availability.
  • Participating in professional growth and development, staying updated through continuing education and workshops.

Qualifications

  • Valid Michigan Teaching Certification in the required subject matter and grade band.
  • A minimum of 5 years full-time successful teaching experience in the required subject matter and grade band.
  • Michigan residency preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • A customer-focused approach.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well in a fast-paced environment.
  • Technologically proficient (especially with Microsoft Office products).
  • Ability to work some occasional evening hours, as needed to support families.
