Elementary Custodian - Grade KX - 1.0 FTE at Sonia Sotomayor Elementary (INTERNAL APPLICANTS ONLY)

About the Role

The Custodial team is an essential part of the Sioux Falls School District. Our goal is to create a safe and healthy environment for SFSD students. We are looking to add flexible and dedicated members to our team that are motivated to help achieve and maintain this goal.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum of 8 months training at the high school or 4 months high school training with a minimum of 1 year prior custodial experience.
• Low pressure boiler training.
• Ability to work unsupervised.
• Good attendance record.
• Ability to communicate and follow written and oral instructions.
• Ability to demonstrate recognition of equipment malfunction.
• Demonstrated positive attitude towards colleagues, ability to work cooperatively, and willingness to accept instructions and training.

Physical Requirements

• Good physical health, including the ability to lift 75 pounds.
• Ability to climb to high and difficult places and work at those locations.
• Constant hand-eye and mind-eye coordination, standing, and walking.
• Repetitive motion with wrists, hands, and fingers.
• Frequent bending, carrying, hearing, lifting, and stooping.
• Occasional climbing and crawling.

Responsibilities

• Sweeps, dusts, arranges furniture, empties trash and pencil sharpeners, cleans chalkboards, and sets up for activities.
• Washes walls, woodwork, and windows, and cleans and polishes metal surfaces.
• Cleans and maintains hard and soft surface floors; wet mops and spot cleans floors.
• Cleans, sanitizes, and deodorizes restrooms and locker rooms.
• Performs minor repair maintenance.
• Operates heating, A/C, ventilation, electrical, and mechanical systems (limited to turning equipment on/off and/or setting day/night cycles).
• Observes and reports needed repairs for equipment, furnishings, fixtures, buildings, and sites.
• Assists in the maintenance of lawns, landscaping, concrete and blacktop surfaces, playgrounds, and pedestrian walkways, including snow and ice removal.
• Assists with setups and teardowns for school activities.
• Operates security systems and secures the building at the conclusion of shift.
• Works a revised schedule and substitutes for other custodial staff when necessary.
• Shares responsibility for holiday, extended day, and weekend activities with other custodial staff.
• Performs other duties as assigned by supervisors.

Pay

Level KX, starting at $23.62 per hour. Pay day is the last working day of each month.

Schedule

• Monday through Friday, 3:00 pm to 11:30 pm with a 30-minute break.
• 1.0 FTE, 40 hours per week, 12 months.
• 2026-2027 12 Month Classified Staff Calendar.
