About the role

The Springfield Public Schools seeks a dedicated educator to join our team. This position involves meeting and instructing assigned classes, planning a curriculum that meets individual student needs, creating a supportive learning environment, and assessing student progress.

Responsibilities

• Meets and instructs assigned classes in designated locations and times
• Plans a program of study that addresses individual student needs, interests, and abilities
• Guides the learning process towards achieving district curriculum goals
• Prepares for classes assigned and maintains accurate records
• Employs various instructional techniques and media, consistent with physical constraints and student capabilities
• Assesses student accomplishments regularly and communicates progress to parents
• Maintains a classroom environment that promotes learning and aligns with the district's philosophy of education
• Diagnoses learning challenges and collaborates with district specialists as needed
• Takes all necessary precautions to ensure safety and security of students, equipment, materials, and facilities
• Enforces a code of conduct for the classroom and develops rules of classroom behavior
• Supervises assignments for paraprofessionals and provides written evaluations
• Maintains an ongoing program of professional growth
• Participates in the teacher evaluation process and contributes to mutually agreed-upon outcomes
• Attends building and district meetings to promote communication and mutual decision-making
• Attends traditional school-sponsored activities as agreed upon by the building administrator and faculty
• Contributes to decisions regarding district and building budgets, facilities, curriculum, and personal well-being
• Maintains professional competence through ongoing learning and development

Qualifications

• Highly qualified with required competency in the content area
• Appropriate content/program area educator license (Elementary) and grade level (1-6) from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education
• Bachelor's Degree with appropriate license; or Master's Degree with appropriate content area license preferred and/or expected within 5 years
