About the role
The Springfield Public Schools seeks a dedicated educator to join our team. This position involves meeting and instructing assigned classes, planning a curriculum that meets individual student needs, creating a supportive learning environment, and assessing student progress.
Responsibilities
- Meets and instructs assigned classes in designated locations and times
- Plans a program of study that addresses individual student needs, interests, and abilities
- Guides the learning process towards achieving district curriculum goals
- Prepares for classes assigned and maintains accurate records
- Employs various instructional techniques and media, consistent with physical constraints and student capabilities
- Assesses student accomplishments regularly and communicates progress to parents
- Maintains a classroom environment that promotes learning and aligns with the district's philosophy of education
- Diagnoses learning challenges and collaborates with district specialists as needed
- Takes all necessary precautions to ensure safety and security of students, equipment, materials, and facilities
- Enforces a code of conduct for the classroom and develops rules of classroom behavior
- Supervises assignments for paraprofessionals and provides written evaluations
- Maintains an ongoing program of professional growth
- Participates in the teacher evaluation process and contributes to mutually agreed-upon outcomes
- Attends building and district meetings to promote communication and mutual decision-making
- Attends traditional school-sponsored activities as agreed upon by the building administrator and faculty
- Contributes to decisions regarding district and building budgets, facilities, curriculum, and personal well-being
- Maintains professional competence through ongoing learning and development
Qualifications
- Highly qualified with required competency in the content area
- Appropriate content/program area educator license (Elementary) and grade level (1-6) from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education
- Bachelor's Degree with appropriate license; or Master's Degree with appropriate content area license preferred and/or expected within 5 years
