Job Summary

Rite of Passage Team is hiring a Teacher at Childhelp, Alice C. Tyler Village in Lignum, Virginia. Childhelp is a psychiatric residential treatment facility specializing in the treatment of children aged 5-14 with mild to severe trauma or neglect, psychiatric disorders, and neurodevelopmental disorders. The position requires a Provisionally Licensed Teachers credential.

About the Role

Become part of a mission-driven organization dedicated to improving the lives of at-risk youth. This role involves planning and implementing instructional programs for students requiring special education services, managing student behavior, assessing and evaluating student achievement, and modifying instructional activities as needed.

Responsibilities

• Plan and implement instructional programs for students requiring special education services.
• Provide academic instruction and educational services to students with emotional and behavioral disabilities.
• Assess and evaluate student achievement and modify instructional activities as required.
• Manage student behavior and participate in meetings such as IEP, ITP, ETP development, and team planning meetings.
• Write and facilitate therapeutic teaching strategies aligned with the Education Treatment Plan (ETP) or Individual Education Plan (IEP).
• Collaborate with staff to deliver consistent curriculum and implement a team approach to working with students.
• Confront inappropriate behavior appropriately and take necessary actions as outlined in the program procedures.

Requirements

• A Bachelor's degree.
• A Virginia Teaching Credential in Special Education or General Education (will be provided if not currently certified).
• A knowledge of instructional strategies, various methodologies, and research related to learning and working with at-risk, high school-aged youth.
• Effective classroom management techniques and behavioral management styles.
• The ability to establish a teaching rapport with students, diagnose, prescribe, and evaluate student progress, and collaborate with staff to deliver consistent curriculum and implement a team approach to working with students.
• The ability to pass a criminal background check, drug screen, physical, and TB test.

• Experience in a similar role preferred.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

• Starting salary at $58,746, with a $1,000 bonus after completing essential skills training within 90 days.

Schedule
