  • Ability to provide required eligibility documents and complete National Service Criminal History Checks and GOLCS clearances before covered service begins.
  • Tutoring, mentoring, coaching, volunteering, youth-development, literacy, or elementary-math experience is preferred but not required.

Competencies

  • Passion for service, commitment to equity, and belief that all students can succeed.
  • Reliability, professionalism, and commitment to consistent, relationship-centered support.
  • Clear communication, relationship-building, and collaboration skills.
  • Openness to coaching and ability to apply feedback and follow procedures.
  • Organization, ability to meet deadlines, and comfort using basic technology and data systems.
  • Collaborative problem-solving and maturity when working with students, teachers, school leaders, and other AmeriCorps members.

Service Expectations

  • Members must complete 1,200 verified service hours by June 17, 2027 and monitor their progress throughout the term.
  • Members serve on designated in-service and training days and participate in required events, which may include Saturday Academy, Power Up, MLK Day of Service, AmeriCorps Week, Career Day, an end-of-year celebration, and Commission-hosted events.
  • Some required service may occur outside the typical Monday–Friday schedule with advance notice.

Member Benefits

  • Service Members who complete the Three-Quarter Time term (1,200 hours) receive a pre-tax living allowance of $14,400 for the full service year. The estimated pre-tax living allowance is distributed on biweekly payments.
  • Segal AmeriCorps Education Award of $5,176.50 after successful completion of the 1,200-hour term and all program requirements.
  • Eligible members may request student-loan forbearance and payment of accrued interest, subject to AmeriCorps rules.
  • Pre-service orientation, ongoing coaching and training, career development, and access to applicable AmeriCorps alumni resources.
