As an Elementary/Middle School Art Teacher, you will create and implement a flexible program and classroom environment that fosters student learning and personal growth. You will develop lesson plans aligned with established guidelines, build rapport with students, staff, and parents, and motivate students to develop skills, attitudes, and knowledge for a strong educational foundation.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and implement a program of instruction adhering to the company’s philosophy, goals, and objectives as outlined in adopted courses of study.
  • Create purposeful and effective lesson plans that maximize time on task and provide real-world, application-based learning opportunities.
  • Review student records to understand each student’s abilities and needs, and maintain accurate and complete student records.
  • Maximize educational achievement for each student using a variety of student learning modalities and differentiated instruction.
  • Conduct frequent diagnostic assessments of student learning, provide appropriate activities to address needs, and generate progress reports as required.
  • Refer students with suspected learning problems to appropriate support personnel.
  • Assign lessons, correct student work, and review oral presentations.
  • Coordinate class field trips as required.
  • Prepare students for state-required achievement assessments.
  • Stay current in subject matter knowledge and learning theory, and share this knowledge to improve the school’s curriculum.
  • Assist in the ongoing curriculum revision process, including the revision of written courses of study.
  • Assist in the selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
  • Familiarize yourself with supplemental services beneficial to students as an extension of regular classroom activities.
  • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning, appropriate to the maturity and interests of students.
  • Maintain positive rapport with students, demonstrating patience and nurturing to support their growth.
  • Ensure the classroom is clean, safe, and includes student-generated work on display as appropriate.
  • Implement relevant policies governing student conduct and develop reasonable rules of classroom/playground behavior in accordance with CSUSA policy.
  • Develop lesson plans consistent with established guidelines and goals, and plan individual/group learning activities to meet instructional objectives and student needs.
  • Prepare for assigned classes and show evidence of preparation upon request.
  • Participate in curriculum planning during designated meetings and incorporate diagnostic information from students’ Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
  • Take necessary precautions to protect supplies, equipment, materials, and facilities needed for the instructional program.
  • Strive to establish cooperative relations and communicate with parents/guardians when appropriate.
  • Communicate clearly, consistently, and positively with parents via all appropriate mediums.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding student records.
  • Participate in parent communication activities and extracurricular activities to foster a positive school culture and support students and staff.

Work Environment

  • May be around or handling hazardous chemicals.
  • Environment may be noisy during high student traffic.

Physical Demands

  • Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently to move objects.
  • Somewhat stressful due to frequent student activity.
  • No significant physical exertion required.
