About the role

The UI Heart and Vascular Center is seeking an Electrophysiology Nurse Clinician to support their EP Team. This role offers opportunities for growth and advancement within the field of cardiac electrophysiology.

Responsibilities

  • Assess vital signs and ensure current medications and allergies are charted.
  • Manage wound dressings and provide in-depth pre-op and post-op education to patients undergoing procedures.
  • Triage patient calls to manage symptoms and facilitate medication refills as needed.
  • Collaborate with HVC Device Nurse Specialists to monitor and manage patient arrhythmias remotely.
  • Implement nursing interventions according to department policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate and facilitate patient care between multiple disciplines.
  • Communicate with referring physicians and health care facilities as needed.
  • Provide cross-coverage to other Nurse Clinicians as needed.
  • Design and implement patient/family health education activities.
  • Assess learning needs and provide appropriate education to patients and families.
  • Facilitate educational experiences for health care students and monitor the care delivered.
  • Serve as a clinical preceptor to new nursing staff.
  • Participate in decision-making processes at the unit and department level.
  • Develop and provide leadership for patient care programs within electrophysiology.
  • Participate in the ongoing implementation of regulatory standards.
  • Use relevant nursing research to improve clinical practice.
  • Assist with the conduct of research activities.
  • Maintain clinical expertise consistent with patient population requirements.

Requirements

  • Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing is required.
  • Minimum 6 months providing direct nursing care or management/supervision of cardiovascular medical/surgical patients OR Minimum 1 year providing direct nursing care/ care coordination within an outpatient setting required.
  • Demonstrated ability to professionally interact with patients/families, nursing staff and other multi-disciplinary team members required.
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Experience and skills with electronic health record is required.

Qualifications

  • Current certification in BLS required by start date.
  • Current license to practice nursing in the State of Iowa required by start date.
  • 3 years providing direct nursing care or management/supervision of cardiovascular medical/surgical patient population preferred.
  • Previous nursing experience managing cardiovascular patient population in an outpatient/ambulatory setting preferred.
  • Strong organization and time management skills and documented excellent interpersonal skills with patients, families and health care team preferred.
  • Current job-related professional certification preferred.
