Electronics Technician, Maintenance III (IOT)

U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance. The ability to obtain and maintain an active, existing U.S. government-issued Secret DoD security clearance is required after day one.

About the Role

This onsite position provides technician-level support for ROTHR MARCAP and RACER receive site systems, including written and verbal technical reports on system status. The role involves troubleshooting complex radar receive system equipment such as advanced fiber optic networks, digital waveform generators, digital receivers, phased array antennas, RF hardware, digital hardware, server clusters, advanced communication equipment, and environmental control and monitoring equipment.

The ideal candidate is a self-starter comfortable working independently or within a team, executing a wide range of tasks from manual labor to highly skilled technical services. Strong communication skills and the ability to provide innovative solutions to complex challenges are essential. The role requires adaptability to unconventional schedules, travel routines, and varying work environments.

This position reports to the RIS ROTHR IOT Team manager and coordinates project assignments from the RMD Program Manager.

Responsibilities

• Perform system troubleshooting using complex test equipment setups and nonstandard or undocumented procedures on radar receive system equipment.
• Provide onsite support for equipment operation and maintenance, including bench-level setup, testing, troubleshooting, and repair of OTHR equipment/components.
• Support preparation and execution of OTHR system enhancements, equipment installation, system integration, and maintenance at local and remote sites, requiring moderate travel.
• Coordinate with engineering groups, ROTHR program QA, and EHS to develop and execute system preventative maintenance routines, including walk-around inspections of engineering spaces.
• Collaborate with ROTHR engineering groups for system experiments and data collections, often serving as the onsite liaison with ROTHR O&M and customer(s).
• Support data extraction, transfer, and delivery to various test groups in accordance with appropriate data handling procedures.
• Execute project-level tasking from field engineering leadership with minimal onsite supervision, complying with RTX best practices and local site policies.
• Solve unusually complex problems requiring advanced OTHR system technical knowledge, often without sole reliance on manufacturers’ manuals or standard operating procedures.
• Support logistics and procurement activities, including receiving, inspecting, inventorying, staging shipments, and storing equipment per ROTHR and Raytheon policies.
• Assist with equipment warranty claims on behalf of ROTHR engineering with various COTS manufacturers.
• Assemble and build components, harnesses, equipment racks, subsystems, and specified test configurations.
• Review technical documentation, generate drawings to capture system/test configurations, and produce production documentation redlines for enhancements.
• Perform all other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma (or equivalent, e.g., G.E.D in the U.S.) or vocational/technical education in a related discipline with a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience.
• 2+ years of experience directly related to ROTHR Operations and Maintenance, with an emphasis on system operation, corrective/preventive/intermediate-level maintenance, bench component-level troubleshooting/repair, maintenance tracking, and logistics support.
• Proficiency with test equipment for HF-VHF RF systems, including fiber optic and power meters, oscilloscopes, spectrum/network/logic analyzers, multimeters, and BER testers.
• Ability to create documentation, troubleshoot, and/or repair cable terminations (e.g., cannon plug, fiber-optic including splicing, network, communications, RF including phase matching).
• Computer experience with Microsoft Windows, Red Hat Linux, Adobe, Microsoft Office, and leaf/spine fiber optic networks.
• Experience supporting field experiments, including setup and operation of nonstandard equipment and test scenarios in collaboration with multiple groups or teams.
• Ability to quickly learn nonstandard equipment operation, test concepts, and new technology to support unconventional subsystem/system applications within OTHR field.
• Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to work autonomously and troubleshoot problems efficiently.

Qualifications We Prefer

• 1+ years of experience working with BAE DDRX RX system, focusing on leaf and spine network, timing and synchronization ROC/TOC, operational control configurations (data diode), data recording controls, MarCap, and ROTHR data products, system-level troubleshooting, and repair.
• Experience in a technical role at ROTHR Receive, Transmit, and/or Consolidated Operations and Control Center with an advanced understanding of ROTHR radar concepts/principles.
• Proficiency with operation and maintenance of BAE DDRX equipment, Starlink communications, ROTHR DL380 server clusters, DWG equipment, and computer peripherals.
• Certifications such as fiber optic installation and repair, 2M solder repair, LOTO, forklift operation, or an electronics associate’s degree (or 4 years of equivalent relevant experience).
• Experience working with ROTHR field engineering group and/or engineering group.

Location & Schedule

This position is primarily located in Freer, Texas, with work also required at the Premont, Texas site. Moderate travel to ROTHR sites in Virginia and Puerto Rico is expected. Employees will work onsite with a set schedule but must be willing to work unconventional hours, including offsite locations with flexible travel routines, often on short notice.
