About the Role

The Electronics Technician III independently assembles and wires EMI's most complex electronic and electromechanical equipment from controlled drawings and work instructions. This senior production role owns workmanship, self-inspection, records, QC handoff, and technician mentoring. QC performs all power-up and functional testing.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble and wire complex EMI equipment, panels, enclosures, subassemblies, and harnesses.
  • Interpret assembly drawings, electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, bills of material, specifications, and work instructions; verify current revisions and materials.
  • Cut, strip, crimp, solder, terminate, route, label, and secure wiring; install connectors, components, and hardware.
  • Measure, mark, and scribe panels, enclosures, and workpieces to approved documentation.
  • Self-inspect components, connections, polarity, labeling, routing, hardware, torque, and workmanship; perform only approved non-energized checks.
  • Complete production and traceability records; transfer finished equipment to QC for power-up and functional testing; complete approved rework.
  • Document nonconforming material, workmanship issues, and drawing discrepancies.
  • Never make unauthorized design, material, or process changes.
  • Support prototype and revised builds; provide Engineering feedback on assembly, manufacturability, and documentation.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas; follow quality, workmanship, ESD, safety, and work instructions.
  • Communicate shortages, defects, conflicts, and schedule risks; mentor Electronics Technician I and II employees.

Level III Expectations

  • Complete EMI's most complex builds with limited supervision.
  • Own build accuracy, records, schedule communication, and complete QC handoff.
  • Resolve issues within procedure; escalate design and quality decisions.
  • Mentor junior technicians and model consistent workmanship and safety.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required; technical education or military electronics training preferred.
  • Approximately 7-10 years of progressive electronics or electromechanical assembly experience.
  • Proven ability to independently build complex equipment from drawings and schematics.
  • Controlled manufacturing or quality-system experience preferred.

Skills

  • Advanced electrical and mechanical assembly skills: soldering, crimping, connectors, cable routing, hardware installation, and layout.
  • Knowledge of electronic components, AC/DC circuits, controls, power distribution, grounding, shielding, polarity, and safety.
  • Proficient with hand and power tools, soldering equipment, crimpers, torque tools, and dimensional measuring tools.
  • Detect component, wiring, workmanship, and documentation errors through visual, dimensional, and approved non-energized checks.
  • Clear communication, accurate records, basic computer skills, and ability to coach technicians.

Preferred Certifications

  • IPC/WHMA-A-620, J-STD-001, IPC-A-610 or similar electronic-assembly certification.

Quality and Safety

  • Follow EMI quality procedures, controlled engineering documentation, workmanship standards, ESD controls, and safety requirements.
  • Stop and report conditions that could affect safety, quality, or product conformity.

Essential Physical Functions

  • Lift, position, and move up to 50 lb in any direction; carry 50 lb up to 100 ft.
  • Bend, stoop, walk, and climb stairs, ladders, and ramps.
  • Sit or stand for prolonged periods.
