Electronics Technician

About the Role

Lynker is searching for a talented Electronics Technician with a knack for customer service to support the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Center for Operational Oceanographic Products and Services (CO-OPS). The role involves preparing, testing, and maintaining systems and instruments for deployment, as well as providing support for their installation, operation, and repair post-deployment.

Responsibilities

• Calibrating sensors that measure water level, wind, temperature, air pressure, and other parameters to ensure proper field operation.
• Conducting firmware and software updates to keep systems performing optimally.
• Performing component and system upgrades per manufacturer specifications.
• Assisting with the assembly, experiment preparation, and conduct of laboratory and field testing of new measurement systems.
• Developing maintenance plans for new oceanographic and meteorological sensor technology and related systems.
• Remote and on-site troubleshooting of electronic systems and sensors.
• Testing sensors to determine suitability for CO-OPS field use.
• Analyzing firmware and software updates for equipment to assess system functionality and potential improvements.
• Assessing and developing test plans for new sensor technology and related systems.
• Managing projects involving laboratory setup, testing, and field deployment of new sensors.
• Preparing new and experimental systems for field deployment, including sensor testing and integration.
• Developing test procedures for new and existing systems and sensors.
• Providing field support, including installation, maintenance, and repair of sensors.
• Providing technical equipment training to field crews.
• Monitoring data acquisition, tracking activities, and resolving problems for assigned field systems.
• Investigating and resolving issues in engineering, system operations, and installation procedures.
• Preparing and reviewing documentation, test results, and reports.
• Performing site inspections to assess suitability and required modifications.
• Assisting in sensor/system selection, procurement, testing, and deployment.
• Utilizing technical writing skills to document systems and present findings.
• Interacting with universities, government agencies, and manufacturers.

Requirements

• Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
• Ability to pass a background check.
• Occasional travel along the East and Gulf Coast, including the Great Lakes.
• Physical abilities for field work, including light lifting, ladder climbing, and occasional deployment aboard small vessels.
• Completion of a boater safety course.

Qualifications

• B.S. in Electronic Engineering, Oceanography, Physical Science, or related field (or equivalent experience).
• One year of experience at the Electronics Technician III level in environmental monitoring technology.
• Knowledge of Data Collection Platforms (DCP) in remote environmental monitoring systems.
• Functional expertise in preventative maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting of environmental monitoring systems.
• Proficiency in using modern water level and current measurement technologies.
• Understanding of meteorological and oceanographic sensors.
• Application of communication systems principles and electronic equipment components.
• Proficiency in using personal computers for word processing, spreadsheets, and data manipulation.
