Electronics Superintendent

America's Heartland Packing is opening a 775,000 sq. ft. greenfield facility in early 2025, featuring a harvest floor, carcass chillers, fabrication area, rendering, further processing, storage coolers, freezers, and loading docks.

About the role

The IT Program PLC Superintendent is accountable for the IT infrastructure, PLCs, robotics, scales, labelers, servers, and the IT department.

Responsibilities

• Plan, organize, and oversee all IT functions for the site.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, local, and internal requirements from design through operation and maintenance.
• Oversee facility computer program upgrades and collaborate with all departments to ensure best practices are followed.
• Work closely with cross-functional teams (Operations, QA, Engineering) to ensure facility needs (temperatures, air flows, utilities) are met.
• Maintain all IT infrastructure, departments, and equipment to high performance and safety standards.
• Provide technical guidance, direction, and develop specifications for the IT team.
• Ensure proper training for all IT personnel.
• Maintain a cross-functional team trained in different IT areas to prevent crewing changes from impacting operations.
• Establish and implement preventative maintenance programs and procedures for the IT department.
• Requisition tools, equipment, and supplies, ensuring critical spares are always in stock.
• Promote and drive succession development within areas of responsibility.

Requirements

• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• Must be able to work in the United States without sponsorship.
• High School diploma or GED.
• 5 years of experience managing an IT department with PLC programming.
• Demonstrated leadership experience supervising, planning, and scheduling a maintenance crew.
• Ability to read, write, and orally communicate in English with little or no supervision.

Preferred Qualifications

• Certifications in a specialty area.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related specialty.
• Previous IT experience in a slaughter/meat facility.
• Bilingual (English/Spanish).

Skills

• Proficiency in PLC electronic theory and troubleshooting.
• Ability to read and use blueprints, schematics, and other diagrams.
• Strong teamwork and communication skills.
• Strong attention to detail and critical thinking.
• Ability to work with minimal direction.
• Effective time management.

Physical Demands

• Occasionally required to stand, walk, or sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear.

• Regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds using the buddy system or lifting devices.

• Frequently required to stand, walk, use hands to handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and talk or hear.
