About the role

The Street Transportation Department is recruiting for an Electronic Systems Specialist (Intelligent Transportation Systems Specialist) position in the Traffic Services Section. This position is responsible for the technical evaluation, installation, troubleshooting, repair and maintenance of the citywide traffic signal IT network system and electrical/electronic infrastructure that makes up the entire Intelligent Transportation IT Network System. The Traffic Signal Shop provides 24/7 technical field support and emergency response to internal and external customers. This position requires shift, weekend, and holiday work hours.

Responsibilities

  • Knowledge Of Networking, electronic communications and/or intelligent transportation systems.
  • Microsoft Office 365 Suite.
  • Ability To Configure and use laptop/computers to access the traffic signal network devices and databases.
  • Participate in an after-hours/weekend on-call rotation schedule.
  • Work outside in a variety of environmental extremes such as heat, cold, rain, air pollution, and dust.
  • Work in a vehicle based aerial lift or bucket truck at heights up to 40 feet.
  • Distinguish full range of colors working with LED's and/or color-coded wires.
  • Manage time effectively in scheduling and performing service calls.
  • Communicate verbally and in writing.

Requirements

  • Three years of journey level experience in installation and maintenance of electronic and digital systems or related distribution systems.
  • Associate's degree in electronics or related field.
  • Other combinations of experience and education which meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.
  • All finalists for positions are subject to a criminal background check applicable to the department or position.
  • Some positions require the use of personal or City vehicles on City business.

Qualifications

  • Three years of experience as a Communications Technician, Intelligent Transportation Systems Specialist and /or Electronics Technician.
  • IMSA Certification or Traffic Signal Level II.
  • Experience With/in Electronic testing devices such as voltmeters, ohm-meters and amp-meters.
  • Fiber optic or wireless radio communications.
  • Vehicle based aerial lift or bucket truck.
  • IP addressing and VLAN Networking.

Pay

Pay Range: $31.68 to $46.81 per hour. Hiring Range: $31.68 to $42.46 per hour. Pay Range Explanation Pay range is the entire compensation range for the position classification. The actual salary offer will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, training, and internal equity.
