ELECTRONIC INDUSTRIAL CONTROLS MECHANIC

About the Role

You will serve as an Electronic Industrial Controls Mechanic in the Public Works Department of NAVFAC Southwest, evaluating and repairing electronically controlled industrial equipment.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate the impact of repairs and adjustments on related integral devices within electronically controlled industrial equipment.
• Determine the effects of alterations on total system functionality to verify correct operation of added equipment.
• Analyze diagnostic test readings and operating conditions to isolate system malfunctions in electronically controlled industrial equipment.
• Use various test equipment to measure input/output voltages, amperage, cycles, check continuity, and impose electrical loads.
• Utilize computers, laptops, and testing equipment to troubleshoot problems prior to field repairs.
• Perform a combination of construction, maintenance, repair, manufacture, modification, utilities operation, or equipment operation involving diverse skills.
• Perform installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of commercial and industrial air conditioning and refrigeration systems (heating, cooling, humidifying, dehumidifying, circulating, and filtering air).
• Conduct in-place repairs to components such as pumps, chillers, impellors, and compressors to restore system operation.
• Examine, diagnose, and repair analog and/or direct digital control (DDC) systems in complex HVAC and refrigeration systems.
• Utilize refrigerant tables and calculate airflow/pressure-temperature characteristics to locate problems.
• Select electronic test equipment to isolate issues and use hand/power tools to install electronic systems.

Requirements

Selective Placement Factor: Must possess a Universal Certification from an EPA-approved certifying program. A copy of your certification must be submitted to be considered.

Although no specific length of experience is required, you must demonstrate through experience and training that you possess the necessary knowledge and skills to perform the duties at the level for which you are applying. Emphasis is on the quality of experience, not duration.

• Performing installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of air conditioning and refrigeration systems.
• Performing in-place repairs to components like pumps, chillers, impellors, and compressors.
• Examining and diagnosing malfunctions in analog and/or direct digital control (DDC) systems.
• Utilizing refrigerant tables and calculating airflow/pressure-temperature characteristics.
• Selecting and using electronic test equipment to isolate problems.
• Using hand and power tools to install electronic systems.

Screen-out Element: Ability to perform the work of the position without more than normal supervision. Applicants must demonstrate this ability in their resume to be considered.

Physical Demands

• Occasionally required to work in cramped/uncomfortable positions (stooping, bending, reaching, walking, kneeling, crouching, crawling).
• Must be able to climb ladders and scaffolds to perform work at various heights.
• Normal vision is required.

Working Conditions

• Some work performed outdoors, exposing you to prevailing weather conditions.
• Work environments vary, including pleasant surroundings, high noise levels (requiring ear protection), very hot/cold environments, poorly ventilated/lighted areas, and exposure to fumes, dust, dirt, grease, oil.
• Potential hazards include scrapes, cuts, bruises, contusions, burns, electric shock, and eye hazards.
