About the Role

The Electroneurodiagnostic Technician performs all neurology diagnostic tests, including planning, education, implementation, communication, and leadership. This role provides service to patients across all age groups—neonatal, infant, child, adolescent, adult, and senior—and requires the knowledge and skills to address their specific needs.

Responsibilities

Neurodiagnostics Functions

  • Set up and disconnect patients according to the Neurodiagnostic Society (ASET) guidelines.
  • Monitor, record, and document pertinent patient information for physicians.
  • Understand different montages and follow provider orders for selecting montages.
  • Maneuver around equipment to access patients in various isolation and precaution rooms.
  • Prioritize workloads and respond to STAT studies.
  • Troubleshoot computers and related equipment.
  • Recognize sleep patterns, spike and seizure activity, and different heart rhythms.

Patient Care

  • Escort patients from the waiting area to the exam room and communicate delays.
  • Educate patients on procedures before, during, and after Electroencephalography (EEG) or Electromyography (EMG).
  • Clean and sterilize equipment, instruments, and work areas as needed.
  • Act as a liaison between patients, day staff, providers, and management.
  • Assist in developing workflows to ensure patient safety.
  • Review patient history, medications, and questionnaires.

Office/Clinical Preparation

  • Create and maintain log books.
  • Prepare chart reviews for upcoming neuro patients.
  • Prepare and maintain clinical and office supplies, including sterilization and restocking of exam and treatment rooms.
  • Assist in accreditations and inspections.

Compliance/Safety

  • Report safety-related incidents in a timely manner through the Midas/RDE tool.
  • Attend all safety-related training programs and perform work in a safe manner.
  • Monitor the work environment for safety issues and ensure compliance with safety protocols.
  • Stay current with state and federal regulations/statutes and company policies.
  • Maintain up-to-date certifications and licenses, if required for the position.
  • Complete all mandatory company and job-specific training within specified time frames.

Qualifications

Education

  • High School Diploma or GED (Required).
  • Graduation from an Electroneurodiagnostic technology training program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs or equivalent formal training (Preferred).
  • Completion of a Polysomnography program or one year of experience in EEG or respiratory therapy (Preferred for Sleep Technologist roles).
  • Completion of an Electroneurodiagnostic (END) program or a 1-year CAAHEP-accredited END program (Preferred for EEG Technicians).

Certification & Licensures

  • BLS (American Heart Association) certification upon hire (Required).
  • Registered or board-eligible through the American Board of Registration of EEG and EP Technologists, Inc. (ABRET) (Preferred).
  • Registered in sleep technology or accepted to sit for the registry examination through the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) or Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT) (Preferred for Sleep Technologists).
  • Registry of the registration exams by the American Board of Registration of Electroencephalographic Technologists (ABRET) (Preferred for EEG Technicians).

Experience

  • Experience operating office equipment such as phones, fax, copier, and scanner (Required).
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in Neurodiagnostic and Sleep (Preferred).
  • Previous experience with evoked potentials, ambulatory EEG, or invasive epilepsy monitoring (Preferred).
  • Previous hospital experience (outpatient and inpatient) (Preferred).
  • Previous sleep study experience with PAP/Oxygen titrations, scoring, staging of sleep studies, or HST (Preferred).
  • Competence in using computers and basic software programs (Required).
