Electro Mechanical Maintenance Lead

About the role

The Electro-Mechanical Maintenance Lead reports directly to the Maintenance Manager and is responsible for leading the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical and mechanical systems, equipment, and facility infrastructure. This role provides technical leadership to the maintenance team while working closely with engineers, production personnel, and other technicians to ensure the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of manufacturing equipment and systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leadership & Team Development: Lead, coordinate, and supervise maintenance technicians. Assign daily maintenance activities and monitor work quality and productivity. Provide technical guidance, troubleshooting support, and hands-on leadership. Conduct team meetings, training sessions, and skill development activities. Support employee growth through coaching and mentoring.

  • Maintenance Planning & Execution: Partner with the Reliability and Process Improvement Specialist to develop and improve preventive maintenance programs. Schedule and prioritize maintenance activities to minimize production downtime. Coordinate maintenance work with production schedules and other departments. Troubleshoot complex electrical and mechanical equipment issues. Perform and oversee advanced repairs, modifications, and equipment installations. Ensure maintenance tasks are completed safely, efficiently, and on schedule.

  • Equipment & Facility Management: Maintain a thorough understanding of facility equipment and infrastructure. Ensure equipment operates safely, efficiently, and in compliance with company standards. Monitor equipment performance and identify opportunities for reliability improvements. Maintain spare parts inventory and recommend inventory adjustments as needed. Support capital improvement projects and equipment upgrades. Maintain accurate maintenance records and equipment histories.

  • Safety & Compliance: Lead by example in promoting a strong safety culture. Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, company policies, and industry best practices. Serve as an active member of the site Safety Team. Promote proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE). Conduct safety inspections and participate in incident investigations when required. Ensure all maintenance activities are performed safely and according to established procedures.

  • Vendor & Contractor Coordination: Coordinate external contractors and service providers performing maintenance work. Evaluate vendor performance and service quality. Assist in negotiating maintenance service agreements and contracts. Ensure contractor work is completed safely, efficiently, and within budget.

  • Documentation & Reporting: Maintain accurate records of: Preventive maintenance activities, Corrective maintenance repairs, Equipment manuals and documentation, Work orders, Service contracts, Spare parts inventory. Track and report maintenance metrics, equipment downtime, and expenditures. Communicate maintenance performance, concerns, and recommendations to Maintenance and Production leadership.

  • Continuous Improvement: Stay current on maintenance technologies, tools, and industry best practices. Identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability and maintenance efficiency. Recommend and implement cost-saving initiatives. Support Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement efforts throughout the facility.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • 5–10 years of experience in industrial maintenance, electro-mechanical maintenance, or a related field.

  • 3–5 years of leadership or supervisory experience.

  • Strong knowledge of: Electrical systems, Mechanical systems, Hydraulics, Pneumatics, Industrial troubleshooting techniques.

  • Ability to read and interpret: Blueprints, Electrical schematics, Technical manuals, Wiring diagrams.

  • Strong communication and organizational skills.

  • Ability to write reports and maintenance documentation.

Preferred

  • Degree, technical certification, or formal training in Electro-Mechanical Technology, Industrial Maintenance, Electrical Technology, or a related field.

  • Experience in a structural steel fabrication, manufacturing, or heavy industrial environment.
