Responsibilities

  • Perform installation, repair, and preventive maintenance on electrical systems, panels, motors, and controls across UVA Housing facilities
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose electrical issues, ensuring all work meets NEC, OSHA, and UVA safety standards
  • Maintain accurate documentation, material tracking, and work order notes
  • Communicate effectively with customers and supervisors regarding work progress and priorities
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for electrical issues within the zone while also participating in a robust cross-training program that builds team flexibility across HVAC, plumbing, carpentry, and other building systems
  • Participate in snow response and emergency call rotations as assigned

Additional Responsibilities - Electrician Level

  • Lead electrical installations and perform advanced diagnostics with minimal supervision
  • Estimate labor, materials, and time for assigned projects
  • Mentor assistants and apprentices on proper practices, troubleshooting, and safety procedures
  • Ensure full code compliance for new installations and system modifications

Requirements

  • Senior Electrical Assistant: Education - High school diploma or equivalent, Experience - Four years of experience in a relevant trade, Licensure - Valid driver’s license
  • Electrician: Education - High school diploma or equivalent, Experience - Four years in the electrical trade, Licensure - Journeyman or Master Electrician license; Valid driver’s license

Pay

  • Senior Electrical Assistant: $21.00 to $25.00 per hour ($43,680 to $52,000 Annually)
  • Electrician: $24.50 to $29.50 per hour ($50,960 to $61,360 Annually)
