Electrician Operator Hydro

Position Summary

Georgia Power seeks a highly skilled, dual-qualified craft employee for an Electrician Operator (EO) position to operate and maintain hydroelectric generating plants within the Chattahoochee Hydro Group, located in the Columbus, GA area. An Electrician Operator is a dual qualified craft employee with the skills and training necessary to perform the tasks normally associated with a Journeyman Electrician as well as those associated with a B Operator.

Duties

• Operating, monitoring, troubleshooting, and repairing the plants' electrical equipment
• Maintaining plant maintenance records in a computer-based work order system, Maximo
• Performing thorough and effective operator rounds, evaluating equipment conditions, and identifying potential hazards
• Writing condition reports for any noted deficiencies
• Working with other departments for the successful execution of scheduled work and planned outages by supporting planning and scheduling activities
• Assisting with work scope identification through system walk downs and evaluations

Education

• HS Graduate or Equivalent required
• 2-Year College/Technical Degree or Equivalent Military Training preferred

Experience

• Power generation experience is desired; hydroelectric generation experience is a plus
• Industrial maintenance and troubleshooting experience desired
• Experience in industrial electrical or certified training desired

Requirements

• Must be able to work with minimal supervision
• Must acquire basic computer skills
• Must be able to work in difficult environments including confined spaces, extreme hot and cold temperatures, indoors and outdoors, around loud noise and locations accessible only via vertical ladders or over uneven spaces, cat walks, climbing high elevations up to 100 feet or working on grated surfaces/platforms
• Must perform duties wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) which may include safety glasses, hard hats, steel toe shoes, gloves, and hearing protection
• Must be able to support a 24/7 shift schedule, including overtime, holiday and back shift work

• Must be able to pass the pre-employment testing: POSS, MASS, JET-K, JET-S
