About the role

A Licensed Electrician with medium / high voltage (MV/HV) experience is sought for a role focusing on the safe operation and maintenance of large life sciences pharmaceutical / laboratory industrial settings that operate 24 x 7, 365 days per year. The role involves operating and maintaining emergency generators, performing load bank testing, and managing various electrical systems.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain tier 1 to tier 4, emergency generators.
  • Perform routine test runs and yearly load bank testing.
  • Familiarize with paralleling switchgear and electrical load transferring.
  • Use Scada systems and manage environmental and regulatory record keeping.
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on 480V and MV/HV (approx. 4.16kV–35kV) distribution systems, switchgear, transformers, breakers, and feeders.
  • Support planned and unplanned MV/HV outages, coordinating with the utility and site operations.
  • Inspect and maintain MV/HV cables, terminations, and splices; perform and document insulation resistance, hi-pot, and related tests.
  • Maintain and repair 480V and MV/HV distribution systems, switchgear, transformers, and associated equipment.
  • Install and troubleshoot 110V, 220V, and 277V circuits and devices (receptacles, lighting, small equipment feeds, and controls).
  • Install and connect motors and other building equipment to power, including verification of proper rotation, overload protection, and grounding.
  • Label and identify panels, circuits, and perform load checks; assist with minor panelboard and breaker upgrades.
  • Troubleshoot motors, VFDs, MCCs, control circuits, PLC I/O, and power quality issues.
  • Read and update one-line diagrams, schematics, and equipment documentation.
  • Use CMMS to receive, complete, and document work orders and preventive maintenance tasks.
  • Use test equipment (multimeters, clamp meters, megohm meters, hi-pot testers, etc.) to diagnose faults and verify safe operation.
  • Identify and recommend reliability, safety, and energy-efficiency improvements.
  • Follow all USF and client safety policies, including NFPA 70E requirements, PPE use, JHAs, and LOTO.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Journeyman or Master Electrician license in Pennsylvania.
  • 5+ years as an industrial/commercial electrician, including hands-on work with medium and/or high voltage systems.
  • Demonstrated experience working safely on 480V 3-phase and MV/HV distribution equipment (switchgear, breakers, transformers, feeders).
  • Formal training in electrical safety (e.g., NFPA 70E or equivalent) and ability to qualify as a “qualified person” for MV/HV work.
  • Strong background in commercial electrical service work (lighting, panels, branch circuits, equipment connections).
  • Basic computer skills (email, CMMS, electronic documentation).
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical one-lines, schematics, and equipment manuals.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain required site access/clearances.
  • Authorization to work in the U.S.; ability to work shifts, overtime, and on-call as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate degree or technical certificate in Electrical Technology, Power Systems, or related field.
  • Experience with 15kV–35kV distribution, substations, or campus-style power systems.
  • Experience testing and maintaining MV/HV breakers, protective relays, grounding systems, and switchgear.
  • Training or certification in MV/HV cable splicing/terminations.
  • Experience using power quality analyzers, infrared thermography, or other condition-based monitoring tools.
  • Experience in a data center, pharmaceutical, advanced manufacturing, or campus environment.

Physical Requirements

  • Lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 lbs regularly.
  • Climb ladders and stairs; work at heights using aerial or scissor lifts.
  • Frequently bend, kneel, squat, and work in confined or awkward spaces.
  • Walk extensively throughout the facility and site.
  • Perform repetitive hand/wrist motions and distinguish wire and component colors.

Other

  • Must be willing to work overtime, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced, critical-facility environment and interact professionally with clients and coworkers.
