Electrician II - Facilities Management - Health Sciences Center

Under the direction of the Electrical Manager and/or Lead, this position provides maintenance troubleshooting, repair, and installation of various types of electrical systems and equipment. Performs construction and repair methods to maintain buildings and equipment at Health Sciences Center Facilities supporting research, clinical, and educational infrastructure.

Responsibilities

• Installs, maintains, repairs, and inspects electrical circuits, conduit, surface raceways, accessories, buss ducts, and cable trays of all types, sizes, and styles.
• Builds, installs, troubleshoots, maintains electrical infrastructure, and repairs motors, motor controls, motor control centers, and interfaces with external equipment such as fire alarms, computers, safety devices, mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, programmable, and digital controls or equipment (voltages ranging from 24V to 480V or higher).
• Installs, operates, inspects, and repairs high voltage distribution equipment inside and outside buildings, including cable splices in underground applications, manholes, vaults, tunnels, and distribution equipment.
• Installs, maintains, operates, and repairs emergency power systems such as generators, transfer switches, battery backup (UPS) systems, and emergency lighting.
• Performs functional and operational testing using electronic test equipment and meters.
• Operates equipment including motorized and hydraulic benders, wire pulling winches, core drills, hydraulic punching tools, portable and stationary saws and drills, vacuum and pressure-operated systems, and truck-mounted lift buckets.
• Sets up systems, develops layouts, programs, and purchases components for fire alarm protection to support renovation projects in laboratories, large office complexes, access areas, and classrooms in compliance with regulatory requirements.
• Installs, fabricates, or modifies fire protection equipment, wiring, and devices using blueprints, schematics, and specifications in conjunction with architects, engineers, and factory representatives.
• Installs and modifies building equipment utilizing electronic controls.
• Designs, fabricates, installs, and modifies instrumentation equipment and electronic controls to support research projects and teaching aids.
• Develops documentation and record-keeping as required by regulating authorities for fire and life safety.
• Installs, uploads, troubleshoots, and modifies computer support programs for associated fire protection software within the Health Sciences Facility.
• Operates, tests, and maintains fire protection equipment, computer programming, and technical documentation.
• Performs preventative maintenance on all fire protection devices associated with fire alarm systems.
• Maintains, documents, and initiates electronic and/or mechanical repairs of all classes of electronic equipment, including modifications and calibrations.
• Performs preventative maintenance, functional, and operational testing using electronic test equipment and meters.
• Works independently on job sites, coordinates with non-craft individuals, and completes tasks using blueprints and technical expertise.
• Determines technical solutions based on approved standards, code requirements, plans, and user requirements.
• Communicates directly with administrative services, customers, and warehouse personnel to complete projects with high-quality results in a timely manner.
• Evaluates problems, project status, and man-hours required to complete work assignments.
• Installs conduit, wire rack, cable tray, Cat6, and other support systems for signal circuits and equipment such as P.A. systems, intercoms, emergency power circuits, lighting, and lighting controls.
• Installs and/or modifies equipment and components such as safety devices, mechanical, programmable cabling, breaker panels, breakers, and digital controls.
• Inspects, maintains, and repairs designated life-safety and door access control and monitoring systems.
• Inspects, troubleshoots, and repairs electromechanical equipment and appliances.
• Performs functional and operational testing using electronic test equipment and meters.
• May operate departmental computer software, fill in for supervisors, assist other crafts, and train individuals as assigned.
• Works at heights exceeding 10 feet using ladders, scaffolds, mechanical lifts, and rooftops.
• Responds to emergency situations during off-hours or as an extension of the duty day, including short or no-notice notifications.

Requirements

• High School diploma or GED required.
• A minimum of two (2) years of experience in the following:
  • Electrical experience at journeyman level or above, or
  • Completion of an associate degree as an electrical technician, or
  • Completion of a 2-year accredited vocational electrical program.
• Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience will be considered.
• All qualifications must be met by the time of employment.
• Valid WV State electrical license (journeyman) preferred.
