Essential Job Functions

• Follow standard operating procedures as well as written and verbal orders and instructions in English.
• Lift up to 75 lb and be in good physical condition; standing, bending, climbing, and upper‑body/back strength required.
• Follow all company policies and procedures, including wearing safety glasses, ear protection, and steel‑toed shoes.
• Work in a noisy environment and work overtime as needed.
• Actively pursue cost‑reduction measures.
• Perform all assigned tasks within specific time limits and company standards.
• Read a tape measure accurately.
• Comply with all safety regulations regarding the work area, product, and equipment; report safety discrepancies to supervisor.
• Develop thorough knowledge of products, options, and uses; learn to read simple blueprints.
• Be cross‑trained in respective departments and learn about parts, usage, and inventory needs.
• Communicate with department leaders when items run low to restock/reorder parts.
• Share department and company knowledge as needed.
• Document information for future reference.

Daily Functions

• Learn, read, and fully comprehend complex electrical schematic diagrams to diagnose and troubleshoot problems.
• Learn the complete truck chassis electrical system, including charging, starting, and load‑management systems.
• Use test equipment and acquire basic knowledge of electronic controls used on transmissions and engines.
• Utilize data readers and laptops to stay updated on vehicle electronics.
• Mount and wire equipment on trucks; run/route wiring harnesses throughout the truck body using small hand tools (requires wrist strength).
• Install and wire equipment such as lights, light mounts, generator set systems, and intercom systems, including radio interfaces.
• Use basic electric tools (crimpers, side cutters, wire gauge) and understand pulling wires, fish tape, and color identification.
• Read tape measures, blueprints, and shop orders accurately.
• Run wire in conduit.

Potential Hazards

• Eye injuries – wear eye protection at all times.
• Cuts & burns – use caution when sanding and wear PPE when welding.
• Trips, slips, & falls – keep air hoses and obstacles clear of aisles; use caution when climbing on/off trucks.
• Electrical shock – ensure equipment is used correctly.
• Repetitive motions – use hand tools correctly to prevent injury.
