About the role
Join our dynamic team of electricians and provide essential services to a fleet of diesel-electric locomotives. You will be responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, and repairing electrical systems in locomotives.
Responsibilities
- Conduct scheduled inspections and circuit tests on various components.
- Perform maintenance and repair of electrical components in locomotive cabs or electrical compartments.
- Carry out equipment maintenance in accordance with prescribed guidelines.
- Troubleshoot and diagnose electrical systems and components.
- Coordinate work activities and plan necessary steps to complete tasks.
- Utilize shop machinery, equipment, and tools effectively and safely.
- Communicate technical information and job procedures.
- Foster positive working relationships with colleagues, supervisors, contractors, and customers.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations and FRA guidelines.
- Handle conflicting opinions diplomatically and maintain professionalism.
- Fulfill any additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Required: Valid driver’s license, proficiency in keyboarding, competence in basic mathematics, background in electronics, control systems, AC/DC motors, or journeyman’s electrical card, ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and prints, strong verbal and written communication skills, experience in comprehending and following instructions, completion of an assessment in English.
- PREFERRED: Completion of a recognized formal electrical training program, relevant certifications and/or licenses as an electrician, Associate's degree in electricity or electronics, previous experience working outdoors, experience with large motor generators and/or high-voltage circuitry, proven expertise in electronics and electro-mechanical systems, experience using personal protective equipment, familiarity with working around, on, and with moving heavy equipment, flexibility to work various shifts, overtime, holidays, and weekends, ability and willingness to work in confined and/or small spaces.
Physical And Mental Job Requirements
- Mobility: Ability to navigate uneven surfaces safely while maintaining balance.
- Visual Ability: Normal color vision to detect and interpret various visual color signals and displays, capable of determining the speed of moving objects at both close and distant ranges.
- Prolonged Standing and Sitting: Able to remain in a standing or sitting position for more than half of each workday.
- Hand Coordination: Frequent coordinated hand movements for tasks such as grasping, placing, or moving objects.
- Sensory Responsiveness: Ability to respond promptly to unusual sounds and smells during inspections and testing.
- Lifting and Carrying: Occasional lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 65 lbs.
- Physical Stamina: Capacity to engage in physically demanding tasks.
- Climbing and Balancing: Ability to perform overhead work, climb, and maintain balance for accessing locomotives and equipment.
