Electrician

About the Role

Provides technical electrician and electronic repair skills to ensure the efficient installation and maintenance of electrical and electronic equipment, devices, and circuitry required to operate facilities at project sites.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and check for proper operation of equipment, devices, and circuits throughout the treatment facility.
• Install, repair, and maintain highly technical electrical equipment including motors, starters, switches, motorized valves, solid-state electronic components, programmable controllers, interlock circuits, conduit, and wiring (120V to 4160V AC/DC).
• Operate and maintain power delivery systems.
• Interpret schematic diagrams for troubleshooting and update schematic wiring diagrams.
• Operate specialized equipment such as forklifts, bucket trucks, pickup trucks, and various hand tools.
• Advise management on the feasibility or hazards of continued equipment operation or the appropriateness of installing new or rebuilt electrical equipment.
• Coordinate and direct the activities of other employees assisting with electrical work.
• Maintain manual and/or computerized work orders and records.
• Perform on-site inspections to determine measurements for replacement parts.
• Ensure all assigned projects are completed fully and accurately.
• Maintain general housekeeping of shop, job sites, and work areas to company standards.
• Observe all on-the-job safety regulations.
• Use voltage testers, megger meters, ammeters, ohmmeters, current and voltage recorders, and multimeters.
• Perform other related tasks as assigned.

Work Environment

Work is performed both inside and outside with exposure to various weather conditions. May be exposed to noise, silica, dust, fumes, smoke, gases, greases, oils, electrical energy, solvents, and vibration. Work environments may include slippery or uneven surfaces, machinery with moving parts, moving objects/vehicles, ladders/scaffolding, below-ground areas, and exposure to water or other liquids. A high level of focus on health, safety, and environment is required.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED (required).
• Five years of experience as an electrician in an industrial environment.
• Two years of related education at a college, trade school, or equivalent may substitute for experience.
• Experience troubleshooting and diagnosing Variable Frequency Drives.
• Valid NYS driver’s license and ability to meet risk management guidelines.
• Completion of a recognized Apprenticeship program.
• OSHA-10 certification.

Skills

• Ability to read and understand operating manuals, complex wiring diagrams, schematics, blueprints, and technical materials.
• Knowledge of algebra, geometry, and trigonometry, as well as treatment plant machines and proper procedures for electrical and HVAC maintenance and repair.
• Knowledge of electrical codes, principles, and theories applicable to installation and maintenance of electrical equipment, including solid-state electronic components and circuits.
• Experience working with power sources from low DC millivolts to 15KV AC, both single-phase and multiphase circuits.
• Proficient in interpreting schematic wiring diagrams.
• Ability to use electrical and other testing equipment to analyze problems.
• Working knowledge of FCC regulations for operation of radios and communication equipment.
• Effective oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
• Skill in using tools such as hammers, wrenches, metal snips, electric drills, pipe cutters, benders, and acetylene torches.
• Safe and efficient operation of motorized and non-motorized equipment.
• Working knowledge of NEC and NFPA-70E.

Pay

$49.90 per hour.
