Responsibilities

• Complies with established job safety practices, policies and procedures as specified in plant and corporate directives for the safe performance of the work assignment.
• Safeguards and follows the SQF (Safe Quality Food) guidelines of the food safety system.
• Maintains a safe and secure work environment by correcting unsafe acts/conditions, participating in monthly safety meetings, performing monthly safety inspections, and investigating accidents, as required.
• Fulfills company policies, Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), practices and Sonoco’s Global Code of Conduct.
• Maintains electrical equipment such as gas mixers, burners, de-ionized water units, air compressors, plant air circulation systems, cooling and heating units, ultra sonic cleaners, waxers and plant lighting.
• Troubleshoots, adjusts, repairs, and programs all VFDs, PLCs, HMIs, motors and other related electrical equipment.
• Prevents failures by performing preventative maintenance on assigned electrical systems and equipment.
• Identifies inefficiencies and potential electrical problems and coordinates through supervisor to resolve.
• Supplies and maintains required hand tools.
• May assist in the design, experimentation, and/or installation of all plant equipment or electrical production procedures.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Experience with Allen-Bradley PLC programming & troubleshooting, HMI and industrial electrical networking.
• Working knowledge of the following areas: all assigned equipment, multimeter, solid state circuitry, electronics, electrical-mechanical devices, transmission systems, interface units, AC/DC motors, wiring diagrams and schematics.
• Basic knowledge of National Electrical Code (NEC).
• Thorough understanding of the operating principles of all assigned equipment, i.e., electrical test equipment, hand tools, etc. and the ability to use logic to troubleshoot equipment.
• Interpersonal and communication skills.
• Signode strapper, Videojet and Domino printers, computers, and Microsoft Office preferred.
• Knowledge of hazardous material handling, working in confined spaces and other safety practices preferred.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and sit/stand for extended periods of time.
• Ability to wear appropriate safety glasses, hearing protection, clothing, and footwear in appropriate areas and follow safety practices.

Qualifications

• Broad training in a related field, usually acquired through a technical school or through equivalent electrical/electronics work experience required.
• Associate’s Degree preferred.
• 2 years of job-related experience preferred.

Rotating 12-hour shifts; 4 on 4 off
