Electrician

Essential Functions

• Installs, alters, maintains and repairs electrical wiring and equipment, both high and low voltage.
• Inspects electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair, and to ensure compliance with codes.
• Diagnostics malfunctioning systems, apparatus, and components using test equipment and hand tools to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem.
• Installs ground leads and connects power cables to equipment, such as motors.
• Installs conduit and pull wires/cables.
• Provides preliminary sketches and cost estimates for materials and services.
• Tests electrical systems and continuity of circuits in wiring, equipment and fixtures using testing devices.
• Plans layout and installation of electrical wiring, equipment and fixtures based on job specifications and codes.
• Purchases parts and equipment, recommends annual supply requirements.
• Reads and interprets blueprints and schematic wiring diagrams.
• Performs other duties assigned by the Superintendent or his/her designee.

Qualification Requirements

• High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) plus satisfactory completion of an approved 4-year electrical apprenticeship.
• Demonstrated aptitude or competence for performing work outlined under essential functions.
• City of Reading Journeyman’s License.
• Valid Pennsylvania Operator’s License.
