ELECTRICIAN
Troubleshooting and Maintenance
Serves as an electrician performing the full range of functions in connection with installation, modification, and repair of Navy Exchange electrical systems and electrically operated equipment.
- Troubleshoots, installs, maintains, and repairs electrical wiring systems, related switches, switchgear, distribution panels, outlet boxes, circuits, and wide variety of electrical fixtures, motors, and electrically operated equipment.
- Fulfills maintenance schedule and inspections or work orders, performs maintenance services, diagnoses system or equipment malfunction, and repairs as necessary.
- Inspects, maintains, cleans, repairs, tests, and adjusts electrical buzzer and bell circuits, light sockets, lighting fixtures, fans, switches, office and heating drills, grinders, and shop equipment.
- Tests circuits and equipment using voltmeter, ammeter, wattmeter, megger, and ohmmeter.
- Makes measurements, cuts, threads, bends, assembles, and installs conduits, inserts splices, and connects wires to fixtures, outlets, switches, receptacles, and power source.
Physical Effort and Conditions
Requires physical effort including standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions where parts of systems are in hard-to-reach places. Frequently lifts, carries, and sets up tools, equipment, and parts weighing up to 20 pounds; occasionally may lift or carry items weighing over 20 pounds.
Working Conditions
Works inside and outside. Subject to contact with dirt and soiling of hands and clothing, shocks, burns from high voltage, cuts, and bruises.
General Experience
One year of experience providing knowledge and ability to perform basic electrical work such as repairing electrical wiring systems and switches, etc.
Substitution of Education for Experience
One year of high school education may be substituted for 3 months of general experience up to a High School Diploma or GED for one year of general experience.
Specialized Experience
Five years of experience providing knowledge and ability to perform a full range of electrician functions in connection with installation, modification, and/or repair of electrical systems and electrically operated equipment, etc.
Physical Requirements
