About the role
Maintains and repairs machinery, electrical/mechanical equipment, and facility electrical needs. Troubleshoots, repairs, and installs electronic equipment and electrical circuits and wiring. Functions as a mentor to Junior Electrician (trainee). Provides general maintenance support as needed.
Responsibilities
- Maintains operation of machinery, electrical/mechanical equipment, and facility electrical infrastructure, including A/C systems, chillers, refrigeration, and DC motors of 20hp and possibly larger.
- Assesses electrical equipment repair or upgrade needs and makes repair/buy recommendations to optimize budget, performance, and economic factors.
- Troubleshoots and repairs manufacturing equipment such as motors, transformers, generators, and electronic controllers.
- Installs new electrical equipment and components as needed, following diagrams, sketches, manuals, manufacturer’s instructions, and engineering specifications.
- Removes, fixes, and installs circuit breakers, fuses, switches, electrical and electronic components, and/or wire.
- Works with engineers, engineering technicians, or industrial machinery installation, repair, and maintenance workers as needed.
- Engages in preventive maintenance activities, including inspecting equipment, identifying problems, and correcting faults before breakdowns occur.
- Provides training and mentorship to Junior Electrician and/or trainee on diagnosis, repair, and maintenance of facility electrical equipment and systems.
- Advises management of potential hazards involving the facility or equipment and recommends corrective action.
- Utilizes hand tools (e.g., screwdrivers, pliers, knives, hacksaws) and power tools/testing equipment (e.g., oscilloscopes, amp meters, test lamps).
- Maintains equipment, parts, and supplies inventories; checks stock levels, anticipates needs, and places orders.
- Performs periodic calibration of plant instrumentation.
- Follows safety rules and regulations to ensure a safe working environment.
- Exhibits exemplary conduct with employees and outside contacts, contributing to a positive and safe work environment.
- May perform other related duties as assigned by management.
Requirements
- Ability to conduct all job functions in English, including reading and comprehending instructions, safety rules, operating manuals, and work procedures.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence, perform basic arithmetic, and present information effectively to others.
- Ability to complete tasks and assignments in a timely manner.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Minimum of 10 years of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of experience and training.
- Experience with manufacturing; chemical or converting industry experience is a plus.
- Working knowledge of 110v, 220v, and 440v circuits, AC/DC voltage, and electrical/mechanical equipment.
- Multi-lingual skills in Japanese and/or Spanish are a plus.
