Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret construction drawings, diagrams, sketches, circuit diagrams, and technical specifications.
  • Survey job sites to assess work scope, prepare material take-offs and estimates for electrical jobs.
  • Perform routine and complex electrical work including the installation of electrical raceway, wiring, fixtures, and equipment.
  • Fabricate and install control and distribution apparatus including switches, relays, and circuit-breaker panels.
  • Cut, thread, bend, and route conduit and pull wire.
  • Test continuity of electrical circuits in installed or repaired equipment using electrical measuring instruments.
  • Analyze malfunctions of electrical equipment using ammeter, voltmeter, ohmmeter, drawings, and visual inspections.
  • Cut or bore through walls, ceilings, or partitions.
  • Use of power and hand tools.
  • Frequent lifting and bending required with the execution of daily work duties.
  • Ensure electrical installations meet appropriate codes and university and industry standards.
  • Comply with applicable safety standards.
  • Required Qualifications

    • State of Michigan Journeyman or Master's Electrical license.
    • Graduation from high school or equivalent.
    • Considerable knowledge of the equipment, methods and materials involved in electrical work.
    • Reasonable computer skills; must be able to use a computer tablet & desktop for such tasks as time entry, work assignments, email, reporting on job status and others.
    • Ability to work from ladders and scaffolding.
    • Must be able to fulfill the requirements necessary to drive a university vehicle.

    Desired Qualifications

    • Experience in health care facilities.
    • Completion of an electrician's apprenticeship program.
    • 5 years of hospital construction and renovation work.
    • Willingness to work overtime and to adjust working hours to meet project requirements.
    • Knowledge of Microsoft products, tablet technology and computers.
    • Experience working with a computerized work order system.
    • Proven ability to provide professional customer service.
    • Ability to make and keep commitments.
    • Exceptional written, electronic, and verbal communication.

      • Work Schedule This position will be providing services in University of Michigan facilities throughout the Health Care System, schedule is Monday-Friday 6:00am-2:15pm.
      • Union Affiliation This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the U-M Skilled Trades Union, Inc., which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.
