Electrician (2 Positions)
About the role
The successful candidate will perform skilled journey-level electrical work including installation, inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical systems and equipment. They will operate and maintain electrical power systems, low-voltage systems (e.g., fire alarms, access systems), and related components. Additionally, they will plan layouts and perform wiring for new or remodeled installations; fabricate electrical parts and perform incidental welding as needed.
Responsibilities
- Inspect completed work and contractor work for compliance with specifications, codes, and regulations.
- Estimate time, cost, and materials for electrical projects.
- Maintain records of work performed through manual and computerized systems, including updating as-built documentation.
- Use and maintain hand and power tools, diagnostic equipment, and safety gear.
- Participate in shop operations including inventory control, tool maintenance, and safety compliance.
- Provide safety instruction and direction to assistants; collaborate with other trades and departments.
- Operate university vehicles and lifts; respond to urgent service requests as needed.
Requirements
- Thorough knowledge of electrical theory, methods, tools, materials, and safety practices applicable to the trade.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, plans, and technical documents.
- Ability to operate and maintain a variety of hand/power tools and testing equipment.
- Ability to estimate materials, time, and cost for assignments.
- Knowledge of applicable building and electrical codes including the California Electrical Code.
- Skill in documenting work in digital maintenance systems; ability to maintain accurate records.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team, with diverse staff and campus community.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to interact professionally with customers and coworkers.
- Commitment to safety, sustainability practices, and continuous improvement.
- Ability to use and understand computer applications for work orders, research, and communications.
Qualifications
- Any combination of progressively responsible training and experience which demonstrates achievement of journey-level skills equivalent to that acquired through completion of a standard 8000 hour (4 year) electrician’s apprenticeship program.
- Must participate in all OSHA required physicals and examinations.
- Requires the possession of a valid California Driver’s License for the operation of any vehicle or equipment required for position and in any emergency situation.

Pay
Classification: Electrician
Anticipated Hiring Range: $6,889/month - $7,457/month
CSU Salary Range: $5,998/month - $8,737/month
Schedule
Selected candidates will be placed in one of the following shifts based on operational needs.
Monday - Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Sunday - Thursday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
