About the role

The Electrician 1 position at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) involves performing skilled work in the installation, operation, maintenance, and repair of UNLV’s electrical equipment. Responsibilities include working with switchboards, transformers, panel boards, interior/exterior lighting and lighting control systems, and motor control. The role requires maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing electrical systems using modern test equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Install, operate, maintain, and repair electrical equipment and systems.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot electrical systems using modern test equipment.
  • Order parts and materials as needed.
  • Maintain and monitor stock inventory.
  • Ensure compliance with Department, University, Federal, State, and County regulations.
  • Log required information such as documentation for the State Public Works Board.
  • Exhibit professionalism, efficiency, and thoroughness.
  • Participate in structured shop meetings.
  • Interact professionally with the campus community to understand their needs.
  • Ensure work performance supports the fastest response time for customers.
  • Adapt to changing priorities.

Requirements

  • Completion of a recognized electrician apprenticeship program.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A valid driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of lighting controls for Honeywell, Lutron, and Philips/Signify.
  • Proficiency in bending Electrical Metallic Tubing (EMT) for 1/2, 3/4, and 1 inch sizes.
  • Working knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC).

Pay

Grade 31, Step 1, salary $57,127.68. Initial appointments typically begin at Step 1 of the assigned grade.

Schedule

Monday through Friday, 6:00 am to 2:30 pm. Subject to change depending on department needs.
