Electrical Test Engineer III - Lunar Permanence

About the role

This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin's Blue Moon landers and related products. To further Blue Origin's mission of millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth, we are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface. As a test engineer, you will be supporting our mission to return humans to the Moon and extend human presence permanently beyond the bounds of Earth. Special Mentions: Relocation provided. Travel expected up to 25% of the time. Interviews will include a technical assessment.

Responsibilities

• Lead a small team of early career engineers through an entire electrical test campaign
• Plan, develop and execute test procedures for flight hardware
• Lead daily test operations, operate test consoles, direct technician work and coordinate with internal customers
• Perform root cause, system hazard analysis and failure investigations
• Troubleshoot issues that arise during testing
• Develop, manage, and maintain test support equipment
• Find opportunities for safety improvements and cost savings
• Proactively prepare status updates and communicates both within the organization and with direct customers
• Participate in test readiness review, pre and post test briefings, and post test reviews
• Manage procedural redlines and updates during test campaigns
• Coordinate test crews, support equipment and configurations for testing
• Enforce safety policies during test planning and operations
• Participate in the assembly and test of development and flight hardware including planning, execution, data reduction and analysis

Minimum Qualifications

• Passion for our mission: Millions of people living and working in space!
• BS or MS in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, physics, or related technical discipline
• 5+ years experience in aerospace test campaigns, with experience in electrical test
• Ability to assign tasking, delegate workload and supervise a team of 2-5 engineers
• Experience working on dispersed rapid development teams, driving process development
• Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion
• Basic understanding in the fundamentals of design (requirements identification, material selection, input definition, form factors, interface definition, environmental considerations, etc.)
• Basic proficiency in 3D CAD programs (Creo Pro/E preferred) including drawing creation
• Basic proficiency in strength and mechanics of materials

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with space vehicle component or integrated vehicle testing including GNC, Comms, EPS/CPS, EMI/EMC, and performance
• Experience with participating in NASA technical reviews
• Experience with test facility instrumentation and Data Acquisition and Control Systems, including troubleshooting analog and digital hardware with bench measurement equipment
• Understands/experience with hazardous operations
• Experience with control actuators, deployable devices (doors, landing gear, sensors, etc.), hydraulic system components, separation systems, or other mechanical systems
• Familiarity with sensors including linear variable differential transformers, resistance temperature detectors, thermocouples, pressure transducers, and resolvers
