About the role
R&P Technologies is seeking a proven shipboard leader/waterfront specialist with technical skills to lead a large crew during a post-delivery on the DDG 1000 class ship. The ideal candidate will provide mentorship and training to Technician Level III, II, and I personnel, and ensure all electrical production meets expectations.
Responsibilities
- Mentor and train Technician Level III, II, and I personnel
- Ensure all work performed adheres to ship specifications and complies with OSHA, NAVSEA, ABS, local shipyard, and R&P safety policies and procedures
- Oversee shipboard installations including electrical equipment, fiber optics, lighting, announcing, RF antennas, audio/video, interior communications, and alarms, and network systems
- Demonstrate and maintain effective leadership qualities, providing guidance to junior personnel
- Deconflict issues during task completion and in office periods
- Create and maintain QA binders, POA&Ms, TIPs, and daily/weekly/monthly reports for customers and Operations Managers
- Aid shipboard task leads in troubleshooting electrical systems, identifying hazards and malfunctions, and repairing/replacing damaged equipment
- Perform operational testing of affected systems using various electrical test equipment
- Affirmatively ensure all personnel adhere to the company's Quality Management System (QMS) and Safety programs
- Coordinate with other lead technicians, operations managers, and superintendents for personnel assignments and job completion across multiple tasks
- Assist shipboard leads with material research, purchase requests, job planning, and material receipt
- Maintain S-Drive folders, including scanning and uploading of QA and shipboard documents to the assigned folder for tasks assigned to their personnel
- Train assigned personnel, including trainings with connector building, filling out QA forms, organization, and other trainings deemed applicable for growth
- Plan activities to promote team building and employee growth and recognition
- Maintain employee records (training records, charge code authorizations, and job descriptions)
- Conduct biannual evaluations and approve timecards, PTO, and expense reports for assigned personnel
Requirements
- Minimum 9-14 years relevant experience working in ship repair onboard US Navy ships (technical education may be substituted for a portion of the experience requirement)
- Experience and multi-pin copper connector certification of cables per Navy Standard Item 009-73 (MIL-STD-2003-5) and Cableway Certification NAVSEA Standard Item 009-73 & MIL-STD-2003-4A
- Active Fiber certification is a plus
- Familiarity with NAVY Standard Items
- Ability to read, understand, and follow customer work item requirements, drawings, and wiring diagrams
- Critical thinking and problem-solving ability
- Excellent physical condition with the ability to lift 50 pounds on your own
- Willingness to travel to various locations in support of ship maintenance availabilities
- Thorough knowledge of safety procedures and guidelines
- Ability to obtain and maintain Navy DBIDS security credentials
- Proven experience as an electrician
- Prior experience supervising other personnel
- Ability to build MIL-SPEC connectors of various types and sizes using both soldering and crimping techniques
- Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving ability
- Excellent physical condition with the ability to lift 50 pounds on your own
- Willingness to travel to various locations in support of ship maintenance availabilities
- Thorough knowledge of safety procedures and guidelines
- Ability to obtain and maintain Navy DBIDS security credentials
Qualifications
- Marine Electrician certification
- US Citizen with the ability to obtain/maintain a DoD Secret security clearance (current active Secret clearance is a plus)
- Fluency in English (verbal and written)
- Successfully completed Navy “A” School (“C” School is a plus) or successful completion of a Shipyard or commercial Electrical apprenticeship program (recognized shipyard apprentice graduates are a plus)
