Electrical Technician III

R&P Technologies is seeking an experienced Marine Electrician III with strong technical skills and waterfront knowledge to work under the supervision of a Lead Technician Level IV. Provide training to Technician Level II and I personnel, report task completions and production obstacles, and stand in as Lead Technician when required. Ensure all work complies with ship specifications, OSHA, NAVSEA, ABS, local shipyard, and R&P safety policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Execute electrical installations for systems including lighting, announcing, 115V/440V electrical plant equipment, Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS) equipment, audio/video systems, RF antenna systems, interior communications, alarms, and network systems.
• Install electrical cabinets, fixtures, equipment, and safety/distribution components (e.g., switches, resistors, circuit-breaker panels).
• Connect wiring in electrical circuits and networks using various MIL-SPEC connectors.
• Pull in cables of various lengths and sizes for system connections.
• Perform troubleshooting to identify hazards or malfunctions and repair/replace damaged equipment.
• Lead shipboard availabilities with a small crew when required.
• Install, tag, and band copper cables on various classes of surface and submarine Naval vessels.
• Layout, fabricate, and install electrical wiring and coaxial cable onboard Navy vessels.
• Troubleshoot and test copper cables and circuits.
• Read and interpret drawings, specifications, technical manuals, and design notices.
• Use trade tools such as multimeters, pin crimpers, and soldering equipment for complex electrical installations (e.g., cable, military circular connectors, panel boxes, power terminations).
• Demonstrate basic computer skills and familiarity with MS-Office programs (Word, Excel, Project).

Requirements

• Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience as a Marine Electrician working in ship repair onboard US Navy ships (technical education may substitute for a portion of experience).
• Proficiency with multi-pin copper connectors per Navy Standard Item 009-73 (MIL-STD-2003-5); current certification proof desired.
• Military Fiber Optic certification (preferred).
• Cableway inspection certification (preferred).
• Experience leading AIT teams during shipyard availabilities (a plus).
• Familiarity with NAVY Standard Items.
• Ability to read, understand, and follow customer work item requirements, drawings, and wiring diagrams.
• Keen attention to detail and quality-driven metrics.
• U.S. citizenship with the ability to obtain/maintain a DoD Secret security clearance (current active Secret clearance is a plus).
• Successful completion of Navy “A” School (“C” School is a plus) or a recognized Shipyard/commercial Electrical apprenticeship program.
• Proven experience in marine electrical systems.
• Demonstrated ability to use electrical tooling (e.g., voltmeter, megohmmeter).
• Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
• Physical ability to lift 50 pounds independently.
• Willingness to travel to various locations for ship maintenance availabilities.
• Flexibility with scheduling due to Navy operational requirements.
• Thorough knowledge of safety procedures and guidelines.
• Ability to obtain and maintain Navy CAC or DBIDS security credentials for access to shipyards and other secure locations.
