R&P Technologies is seeking an experienced Marine Electrician III with strong technical skills and waterfront knowledge to work under the supervision of a Lead Technician Level IV.

About the Role

  • Provide training to Technician Level II and I personnel.
  • Report all task completions and production obstacles to the Lead Technician.
  • Capable of standing in as Lead Technician when required.
  • Ensure all work complies with ship specification requirements, OSHA, NAVSEA, ABS, local shipyard, and R&P safety policies and procedures.
  • Operate efficiently in a team environment and demonstrate effective leadership qualities while mentoring junior personnel.
  • Receive guidance from Lead Technician or Task Lead for any assigned tasks that are not fully understood.

Responsibilities

  • Execute electrical installations including 115VAC/440VAC/various VDC equipment, fiber optics, lighting, announcing systems, RF antennas, audio/video, interior communications, alarms, and network systems.
  • Install electrical cabinets, fixtures, and equipment for various electrical systems.
  • Install safety and distribution components (e.g., switches, resistors, circuit-breaker panels).
  • Connect wiring in electrical circuits and networks using MIL-SPEC connectors.
  • Pull in cables of various lengths and sizes to accommodate system connections.
  • Perform troubleshooting to identify hazards or malfunctions and repair/replace damaged equipment.
  • Potentially run shipboard availabilities with a small crew.
  • Install, tag, and band copper cables on various classes of surface and submarine Naval vessels.
  • Layout, fabricate, and install electrical wiring and coaxial cable onboard Navy vessels.
  • Troubleshoot and test copper cables and circuits.
  • Read and interpret drawings, specifications, technical manuals, and design notices.
  • Use tools of the trade such as multimeters, pin crimpers, and soldering equipment for complex electrical installations.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience working in ship repair onboard US Navy ships (technical education may substitute for a portion of the experience).
  • Experience with and proficiency in multi-pin copper connectors of cables per Navy Standard Item 009-73 (MIL-STD-2003-5); current certification proof desired.
  • Military Fiber Optic certification (preferred).
  • Cableway inspection certification (preferred).
  • Experience leading AIT teams during shipyard availabilities (a plus).
  • Familiarity with NAVY Standard Items.
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow customer work item requirements, drawings, and wiring diagrams.
  • Proven experience in marine electrical systems.
  • Ability to demonstrate understanding and use of electrical tooling (e.g., voltmeter, megohmmeter).
  • Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving ability.
  • Excellent physical condition with the ability to lift 50 pounds independently.
  • Willingness to travel to various locations in support of ship maintenance availabilities.
  • Flexibility with scheduling due to Navy operational requirements.
  • Thorough knowledge of safety procedures and guidelines.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Navy CAC or DBIDS security credentials.
  • US citizenship with the ability to obtain/maintain a DoD Secret security clearance (current active Secret clearance is a plus).
  • Successful completion of Navy “A” School (“C” School is a plus) or a recognized Shipyard or commercial Electrical apprenticeship program.
