Job Roles and Responsibilities
- Lead on-site construction, commissioning, and energization of high-voltage substations
- Promote and enforce OSHA, NFPA 70E, NESC, and company safety standards
- Conduct daily safety meetings, site inspections, and audits
- Ensure lockout/tagout procedures, permits, and energized work permits are in place
- Review electrical drawings, one-line diagrams, vendor drawings, and project specifications
- Develop and maintain look-ahead schedules and manpower plans
- Cook up outages, switching activities, and energization schedules with utilities
- Supervise electricians, linemen, and subcontractors during installation activities
- Oversee bus work, grounding, conduit, cable installation, control wiring, protection and control systems, and functional testing
- Verify materials, equipment, and tools meet project specifications
- Maintain daily reports, redline drawings, and as-built documentation
- Perform inspections and acceptance testing including megger, ductor, hipot, CT/PT ratio, and relay testing
- Resolve punch list items, non-conformance reports (NCRs), and quality issues
- Track labor, equipment usage, installed quantities, and project costs
- Review vendor invoices and change orders
- Lead project progress meetings and provide daily updates to project management
Qualifications and Certifications
- High school diploma or GED required
- 8+ years of high-voltage substation construction experience
- 3+ years of experience as a General Foreman or Superintendent
- Strong knowledge of electrical and civil drawings, wiring diagrams, relay schematics, and one-line diagrams
- Experience with protection & control systems and SCADA
- OSHA 30 Certification required
- CPR/First Aid Certification required
- NETA II/III Certification preferred
- Journeyman Electrician License preferred
- Experience with utility, EPC, or design-build substation projects
- Willingness to travel nationwide and work in outdoor construction environments
