Electrical Studies Engineer
Overview
Our client, a leading employee-owned engineering consulting firm specializing in power, renewable energy, transportation, and water infrastructure, is seeking an Electrical Studies Engineer to support power system studies within the renewable energy sector. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the advancement of renewable energy solutions through rigorous analysis and innovative engineering practices. The Electrical Studies Engineer will serve as a technical lead for complex power system studies, support renewable energy projects, develop new study procedures, and collaborate directly with clients and internal stakeholders. This remote, full-time position is open to qualified candidates throughout the United States.
Pay Range
Pay range: $111,200 – $150,400

Responsibilities
- Lead advanced power system studies and analyses for renewable energy projects.
- Perform complex electrical studies, including TOV, TRV, AC interference, 5 mA, insulation coordination, and EMF analyses using PSCAD, Polaris, CDEGS, ASPEN Line Constants, and TLW-GEN.
- Conduct high-level system studies to support renewable energy projects.
- Apply specialized software to model and analyze electrical phenomena.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to interpret results and recommend solutions.
- Ensure technical accuracy and compliance with industry standards.
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
- Develop procedures for new study areas and support business development.
- Serve as technical lead on projects, coordinating with internal teams, external partners, and clients.
- Conduct technical reviews and enforce quality control standards.
- Research new technologies and contribute to process improvements.
- Participate in client meetings, present technical information, and support proposal development.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution (or equivalent).
- Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
- 4+ years of engineering experience.
- 3+ years of experience directly related to power systems.
- Experience supporting renewable energy projects.
- Proficiency with power systems software such as ETAP, EasyPower, PSCAD, Polaris, CDEGS, ASPEN Line Constants, and TLW-GEN.
- Strong experience performing power system studies and analyses.
- Experience performing electromagnetic transient (EMT) and switching transient studies, including lightning, switching events, converter-based resource interactions, and protection-related transients preferred.
- Hands-on experience with transient modeling and analysis tools such as PSCAD (or equivalent EMT tools) preferred.
- Experience supporting transient studies for renewable energy facilities preferred.
- Experience serving as a technical lead on engineering projects preferred.
- Experience mentoring junior engineers preferred.
- Able to independently manage workload and complete assignments.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to work effectively under pressure.
- Excellent presentation, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build effective relationships with staff, management, clients, and external stakeholders.
- Must be authorized to work permanently in the United States.
