Electrical Specialist - High Voltage

About the role

Inspect, repair, replace, install, adjust, maintain, and test all medium and low voltage utility systems, equipment, motors, MCC panels, generators, transformers, switchgears, substations, and distribution systems at 15KV, 4160V, 480V, and 208V.

Responsibilities

  • Work from prints, diagrams, specifications, and instructions covering emergency and scheduled repairs, installation, testing, and inspection of electrical utility systems (medium and low voltage), including distribution systems, 125VDC systems, and UPS systems.
  • Analyze, troubleshoot, modify, install, and repair power delivery and distribution equipment and electrical circuits using prints, diagrams, and test instruments.
  • Test, inspect, clean, repair, dismantle, adjust, and replace power equipment, transformers, switchgear, MCC, control panels, motors, and other electrical apparatus.
  • Perform switching on electrical utility systems, placing blocking, grounds, locks, etc., on 15KV, 4160V, and 480V systems as required by operational switching procedures.
  • Work on service lines for isolation, grounding, maintenance, and troubleshooting to maintain operation.
  • Direct other repair personnel as assigned.
  • Prepare and maintain records and reports on electrical utility equipment for maintenance programs based on tests and preventative maintenance procedures; take corrective action as necessary.
  • Perform safety inspections during facility additions or repairs to ensure safe and continuous operation of electrical utilities systems.
  • Test, calibrate, and maintain protective devices on electrical utility systems and keep prints up to date on 15KV distribution feeders.
  • Perform duties equivalent to a Grade 1 Electrician as required.
  • Perform all other job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Journeyman Electrician license.
  • Strong background in industrial and commercial electrical apparatus and control circuitry maintenance.
  • Strong background in low voltage switchgear maintenance and repair.
  • Thorough familiarity with electrical test equipment.
  • Ability to write and comprehend written and oral instructions.
  • Willingness to work rotational shifts, including days, evenings, nights, overtime, weekends, and holidays as required.
  • Knowledge of current NEC regulations.
  • Eight years’ experience in the electrical trade in maintenance and/or construction.
  • High school diploma, technical school, apprenticeship, or trade school graduate or equivalent.
  • U.S. citizenship; ability to obtain and maintain a Top-Secret Security Clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master Electrician license.
  • NFPA-70E Training.
  • OSHA 10 Training.
  • CPR Training.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations.

Physical Demands

  • Operate industrial machinery, power tools, and motor vehicles.
  • Walk, bend, squat, and carry materials throughout the facility.
  • Follow strict safety guidelines and use Personal Protective Equipment.
  • Occasionally lift more than 50 pounds with assistance.

Pay

$53.35 per hour.
