Electrical Specialist
About the role
The Electrical Specialist supports maintenance, repair, and operation of NRG’s generation fleet, focusing on electrical systems in substations and power plants. They provide technical leadership, develop and implement test plans, and collaborate with various stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Perform or lead testing and maintenance of protective electrical systems.
- Create and revise power plant drawings, schematics, and diagrams.
- Support multi-year outage forecasting, maintenance, and upgrade prioritization.
- Provide technical guidance and training to junior technicians.
- Work independently and as part of a team, with occasional emergency support.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards and safety regulations.
Requirements
- Undergraduate degree in Engineering or related field.
- Five (5) years of relevant experience in Power Generation or related industry.
- Strong understanding of electrical theory and experience with generators, switchgear, and protective relays.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
Qualifications
- Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in power generation performing advanced electrical and relay protection work.
- Demonstrated project management, leadership, influence, and communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and good writing skills.
- Desire to work in a diverse and fast-paced environment.
Benefits
The company offers a competitive base salary range of $98,480 - 162,480, with additional benefits including medical, vision, dental, 401K, and flexible spending accounts. Schedule
This is a hybrid role with office opportunities in Houston, Pittsburgh, or Princeton, along with NRG Plant locations in the Midwest, East, and Texas. Occasional travel to generation facilities, support facilities, and vendor sites is required.
Physical Requirements
Employees must demand frequency ability to work in office, plant, and field environments. They should constantly use a keyboard and computer, walk around plant sites, stand, bend, lift up to 50 lbs, and walk. Employees must also demand frequency ability to wear appropriate PPE, fall protection, and arc flash clothing where required. Approximately 30% travel to generation facilities, support facilities, and vendor sites is expected.
