About the role

The Electrical Shop Manager oversees and coordinates the daily activities of the Electricians, serving as the primary point of contact for university customers. This role ensures all electrical work complies with state and university guidelines, maintains safety standards, and manages the procurement and inventory of parts.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as the primary contact for university customers regarding work order status and repair services.
  • Maintains the highest standards of safety, quality, and regulatory compliance.
  • Collaborates with support teams and users to plan and execute maintenance and renovation projects.
  • Evaluates and updates standard procedures to prioritize work and manage staff activities.
  • Manages backlog levels and allocates additional staff and overtime as needed.
  • Supervises and coordinates activities of the staff and maintenance personnel.
  • Manages after-hours on-call staff and ensures coverage for emergencies.
  • Establishes scopes of work and develops estimates for deferred maintenance projects.
  • Supports the development of energy conservation and maintenance programs.
  • Reviews and approves necessary permits and specifications for renovation or maintenance projects.
  • Maintains work order records and ensures proper labor and material charges.
  • Monitors project costs, coordinates resources, and tracks key performance indicators.
  • Ensures compliance with safety policies, building codes, and environmental regulations.
  • Trains trades employees and manages their performance.
  • Develops and implements a strategic plan for Electrical Maintenance.
  • Communicates with key stakeholders and monitors customer satisfaction.
  • Participates in the continuous improvement of departmental work methods and systems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Facilities Management, Construction Management, or related field and five (5) years of related experience.
  • Seven (7) years of related experience or nine (9) years of progressively responsible experience in management, mechanical systems maintenance, HVACR, or facilities operations.
  • One (1) year of experience must include serving as a manager or supervisor of a moderate-sized department or unit.
  • Leadership skills and experience showing significant accomplishments in improving operational efficiency.
  • Experience planning and responding to emergency failures in buildings with technically sophisticated systems and infrastructure.
  • Thorough understanding of failure modes of Electrical systems, including Lighting Controls and building switches and components.
  • Extensive working knowledge of various manufacturers' equipment and computerized systems.
  • Experience troubleshooting electrical systems problems and making recommendations to mitigate systemic issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to work without supervision and manage workforce to resolve problems of both a technical and administrative nature.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications and computerized maintenance management software programs.
  • Ability to positively interact with a variety of individuals through direct and non-direct interactions and communications.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written communication with a diverse audience.
  • Ability to prioritize assets and maintenance tasks and link to strategic goals.
  • Current motor vehicle operator license and reliable transportation.
  • Willingness and ability to work occasional evening and weekend hours and be on-call for emergencies.

Qualifications

  • Journeyman’s Electrical License or Master’s Electrical License preferred.
  • Familiarity with union environments and large college/university settings.
  • Experience using CMMS programs and strong technical skills with database programs and/or enterprise applications.
  • Knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, and nationally recognized standards and guidelines, as related to OSHA, NFPA, EPA, etc.
  • Familiarity with the International Building Code's mechanical provisions.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCad and the capability to use for take-offs.
  • Experience estimating resource hours, material, and sequencing for maintenance tasks.
  • Line management experience directly supervising trade crews in a 24/7/365-day operation.

Schedule

Monday-Friday 7am-3pm; 40 hours per week.
