Electrical QA/QC Technician

About the role

The Mission Critical Quality / Commissioning (QCx) Technician I will work with QCx project teams to implement and apply project-specific quality control programs and procedures. This role assists the QCx Technician II in applying QCx-specific procedures, checklists, plans, forms, and logs.

Responsibilities

• Identify areas for improvement while adhering to best practices to enhance operational efficiency and reliability.
• Support the implementation of Quality / Commissioning Programs on projects, focusing on core programs including site-specific quality plans, policies, and procedures through proactive planning, training, support, and sharing lessons learned.
• Assist in the verification and documentation for all Owner Furnished Contractor Installed (OFCI) equipment, ensuring conformance with the approved submittal while adhering to the Equipment Protection Plan.
• Aid the construction team and QCx team to support Foreign Objects and Debris (FOD) inspections prior to energization on MV / LV SWGR, MV / LV XFMRs, Panelboards, etc.
• Assist in the First Time Energization (FTE) process from start to finish.
• Responsible for accurately torquing bolts and fasteners to specified tolerances, ensuring proper assembly and safety standards are met.
• Conduct megger testing on feeder wires to ensure proper insulation resistance and electrical safety compliance.
• Maintain correct and accurate inspection records, torque reports, megger reports, and other related items.
• Contribute to Daily Quality Reports documenting field discrepancies and audit findings while supporting corrective actions.
• Support investigations into quality-related incidents, conduct root cause analyses, and implement corrective actions, establishing preventative measures to minimize future incidents.
• Identify and assess quality risks associated with Mission Critical operations.
• Perform other duties as assigned, including temporary assignments, training, and related tasks.

Requirements

• High School Graduate or GED required.
• Minimum of 0-1 years’ electrical construction, Quality Control, or Commissioning experience.
• Basic knowledge of building codes and regulations including Life Safety, BOCA, NFPA, NEC, and OSHA.
• Ability to read and interpret specifications, submittals, single-line diagrams, and other contract documents.
• Ability to work under pressure while closely tracking QC details of multiple project activities.
• Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) to create documents, analyze data, and communicate effectively.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to adapt to a fast-paced, hands-on working environment.
• Experience in a decision-making position, self-motivation, and an analytical mindset.
• Capable of collaborating with field and management to understand and implement technological and quality programs.
• Valid Driver’s License.
• Must pass references, background check, and drug screen testing.

Working Conditions

• Work in all weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, or snow.
• Utilize construction site sanitary facilities (Porta-Johns).
• Work from various types of ladders and transport/relocate them unassisted; personal weight with tools must not exceed ladder capacity.
• Perform work at heights up to 90 feet from ladders, scaffolds, aerial lifts, catwalks, and other safe work areas.
• Work in restricted areas such as switchgear rooms, manholes, utility tunnels, and crawl spaces.
• Wear personal protective equipment as required.
• Able to work 40 hours per week plus overtime, including the possibility of night shifts.

Required Physical/Mental Functions

• Positively identify colors of wire and other items as required.
• Safely use required power tools and test equipment.
• Safely operate equipment such as lift trucks and aerial lifts.
• Comprehend and practice safe work procedures as outlined in the Safety Handbook.
• Operate company trucks with manual and automatic transmissions.
• Read and interpret maps, manuals, work site directions, and written instructions.
• Operate and work from mechanical personal lifts (electric or gas-powered).
• Hear and see well (naturally or with correction).
• Bend, stoop, squat, crawl, climb, kneel, balance, push, pull, and reach overhead.
• Lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds, with frequent lifting and carrying of objects up to 20 pounds.
• Tolerate prolonged standing and movement on foot.
• Climb ladders (all types).
• Complete overhead work for extended periods.
• Repetitive use of arms, hands, and fingers.
