Job Description

Our client's Electrical Project Manager - Estimator position offers an exciting opportunity to help clients provide safe and reliable sources of electric power. Ideal candidates possess experience in electrical power systems at various voltages, from 480V to 500 kV.

Responsibilities

  • Cook up a project's detailed physical design, including one-line diagrams, equipment selection, equipment specifications, grounding system design, conduit and cable sizing/routing, auxiliary AC/DC power systems, physical layouts, construction cost estimates, and project scheduling.
  • Manage project costs, schedule, and priorities for engineering design and equipment specification functions for electrical projects from 480V to 500 kV.
  • Inspect and approve electrical equipment to be used in electrical systems.
  • Coordinate the physical design, including bus design, equipment ratings, and safety/maintenance clearances.
  • Evaluate and assess electrical equipment.
  • Collaborate with Civil/Structural engineers and provide technical support as required.
  • Communicate and interact with clients or external personnel, including sales and vendor management.
  • Prepare regular project updates to maintain required customer care.
  • Support construction of substations and equipment commissioning.
  • Review and establish project scope, electrical budget, and design approach.
  • Lead coordination of meetings with design team members and clients.
  • Work with all other disciplines to produce construction documents in a timely manner.
  • Conduct site surveys for field measuring and construction observation.
  • Review and edit project submittals and specify actions required with vendors and contractors.
  • Review and edit engineering reports for submission to customers.
  • Prepare project cost estimates.
  • Provide direction and supervision to team members.
  • Identify capability gaps and ensure sufficient training opportunities are available to engineers and field staff.
  • Perform pricing development.
  • Communicate with customers on commercial and technical issues.
  • Visit customer sites to address customer needs and develop new business.
  • Track proposal and order hit rate activity.
  • Provide technical and application assistance to the Sales Team.
  • Develop unique solutions using all technical resources available to provide greater customer value.
  • Occasionally work evenings and weekends to satisfy bid due dates.
  • Demonstrate experience with or knowledge of physical design of electric distribution systems including one-line diagrams, selection of equipment, grounding systems, conduit and cable sizing/routing, auxiliary AC/DC power systems, physical layouts, construction cost estimates, and project scheduling.
  • Create work scopes and costing of power system studies, engineered solutions, and EPC projects.
  • Clearly and effectively communicate in English and be comfortable doing so directly with customers and coworkers.
  • Write clearly and correctly in English and develop proposals.
  • Perform other duties as requested to improve business development and execution of projects.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years related experience in electrical estimating or electrical construction field.
  • A Master Electrician, Associate's degree, or Engineering degree.
  • Experience reading and interpreting electrical drawings.
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and prioritization skills to meet quality standards in internal/external communication, schedules, and budget.
  • Sound working knowledge of applicable ANSI/IEEE, NFPA 70E, and NEC standards for design and construction.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Willingness to travel as needed to project sites (less than 50%).
  • Ability to work in a team environment and coordinate the work of various engineering disciplines and contractors to complete an integrated project.
  • Experience reading and interpreting construction plans, specifications, and applicable code requirements.
  • Experience with contract documents including contract drawings, specifications, subcontracts, contract addenda, and change orders.
  • Proficiency using various software applications (MS Project, MS Office Suite, and Trimble Estimation Software).
  • Strong business skills and ability to estimate and produce projects profitably.
  • Maintain a valid driver's license.
  • Pass a background check and drug test.
  • Authorized to work in the United States.
