About the role

This role offers an experienced electrical project manager the opportunity to lead the design and delivery of commercial, industrial, and educational projects within a growing, multi-state engineering firm. You will manage electrical design efforts from concept through construction documents, collaborate closely with clients and multidisciplinary teams, and help guide less-experienced designers while contributing to a supportive, family-oriented culture. The position is ideal for a professional who enjoys both technical design and client-facing responsibilities and who is looking to grow into a long-term leadership role.

Responsibilities

  • Lead electrical design and project management activities for commercial, industrial, and educational projects from initial concept through construction documentation.
  • Prepare complete, biddable sets of electrical construction documents that meet applicable codes, standards, and project requirements.
  • Collaborate closely with clients to understand project goals, present design solutions, and maintain strong, long-term relationships.
  • Coordinate with other disciplines, including architectural, structural, mechanical, and other engineering teams, to ensure fully integrated project delivery.
  • Utilize AutoCAD and Revit MEP to develop and document electrical designs, while continuously refining skills and adapting to evolving design tools.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritizing tasks and deadlines in a deadline-driven yet relaxed environment.
  • Adapt designs and workflows to changing technologies, codes, and tools, ensuring that project deliverables remain current and compliant.
  • Mentor and support entry-level and less-experienced team members, fostering their development into future leaders.
  • Contribute to proposal preparation and client development activities, including assisting with scope definition, fee development, and presentation materials, as experience allows.
  • Engage in internal development opportunities and participate in company events to support a collaborative, family-oriented culture.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of experience in electrical design and project management, with the ability to produce complete sets of biddable construction documents.
  • Strong proficiency with AutoCAD for electrical design and documentation.
  • Experience using Revit MEP for electrical systems design and coordination, or a strong willingness and ability to learn Revit.
  • Proven experience with commercial building projects, including commercial design and commercial construction.
  • Experience delivering electrical design for industrial and educational projects.
  • Solid foundation in electrical engineering principles and electrical design practices.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with clients and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong client relationships and represent the firm professionally in all interactions.
  • Ability to manage and multitask across multiple projects, balancing priorities and deadlines effectively.
  • Adaptability to changing technologies, codes, and design tools, with a continuous improvement mindset.
  • Demonstrated passion for mentorship and supporting the growth of junior team members.

Qualifications

  • 6 to 10 years of experience working with complex electrical systems, including advanced or specialized project types.
  • Experience with proposal writing, including drafting technical content and supporting fee and scope development.
  • Experience in client development, such as participating in client meetings, presentations, or business development activities.
  • LEED certified professional credential or experience with sustainable design and green building practices.
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field.
  • Licensed Electrical Engineer in the State of California or the ability and interest to pursue licensure.
  • Experience working across various project types and market sectors, demonstrating versatility and broad exposure.
  • Interest in growing into a leadership role within an engineering firm that values long-term relationships and employee development.

Schedule

This is a hybrid position based in Sacramento, CA. The role is structured as a Contract to Hire position.

Pay

The pay range for this position is $43.27 - $67.31 per hour.
