Principal Responsibilities
- Lead design efforts for the analysis of electrical systems, utilizing engineering software and tools to create detailed designs, specifications, and calculations according to code requirements and IMEG standards
- Interact with clients to understand needs, gather project requirements, and communicate technical information effectively while building and maintaining client relationships
- Lead project planning, budgeting, and scheduling tasks to meet project deadlines and objectives
- Document design decisions and client instructions while monitoring project design progress related to percent complete and fee expended
- Analyze engineering problems and propose solutions in collaboration with senior engineers and consultants
- Provide in-process design reviews of electrical system design, calculations, and specifications
- Implement IMEG quality control processes to ensure designs meet IMEG quality standards, industry standards, and client requirements
- Stay up to date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in electrical engineering, contributing to research, development, and innovation efforts within IMEG
- Prioritize safety in all aspects of engineering work, identifying and mitigating potential safety risks associated with electrical systems
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including other engineers, architects, and project managers, to deliver integrated solutions that meet project goals
- Identify potential project problems and seek advice from the Project Manager
- Oversee projects through bidding and construction administration phase
Required Qualifications And Skills
- Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent required
- Professional Engineer (PE) License preferred
- 2 years of experience minimum required, 4 preferred, in the building design consulting industry
- Proficiency in design techniques, tools, and concepts involved in the production of technical plans and specifications
- Strong technical and analytical skills including knowledge of principles relating to circuit theory, electromagnetism, power systems, and electronics as they relate to electrical systems design for buildings
- Proficient with industry standard engineering software and tools including lighting photometric calculation software such as AGI, Elum Tools, Visual Lighting, or other; power system analysis and design software such as SKM/PTW, Easy Power, or other; and energy compliance software such as ComCheck.
- Knowledge of Illumination Engineering Society (IES) Standards
- Knowledge of Master Specification editing and software such as eSPECS, BIM software, and CTC Revit Add In Tools; Proficiency of Smart Engineering Design Assist (SET) Tools within Revit for electrical calculations, coordination, properties, etc.
- Able to train and mentor less experienced staff
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups
- Attention to detail and problem-solving skills
- Proficient with MS Office Suite including but not limited to Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Ability to travel up to 10% with occasional overnight stays
